Jivan Al'Xzzt
Melnibonean general during the cataclysm, last of his line, wielder of the 9 jewels of Harash-Addar, keeper of the tower of pain, scourge of dwarfs and pain of titans.
Jivan designed the tower of pain in what is now Tuulet , but was, pre-cataclysm, in the foothills of a massive mountain range near the sea east of Melnibone. The dwarfs and their lawful gods, had tunneled from their eastern homelands through the great mountain range, and brought with them massive titans - clockwork creatures powered by runic magic learned from their stone giant allies. The tower of pain was not physically imposing, but each floor was built with arcane geometries, giving the entire tower an unsettling look, with the 4th floor seeming to expand outward without appropriate support from the third, and the 6th floor seeming to jut upwards and at an angle, as if somehow balanced on one of its corners rather than resting on its base. Each floor was dedicated to a spell. In fact, over 100 years Jivan grew each of the rooms from the arcane bones of spells, so that the rooms themselves embodied the spell, and amplified its effect in the material world. He then wielded the tower as a weapon, felling dwarfs, and their titans mercilessly for 45 years.
His major downfall was two-fold: he, in essence, built his most lasting weapon as a defensive emplacement. It was highly effective, but could not chase the dwarfs into their tunnels, and thus could never shift the balance of the conflict. And, once created, he lacked the foresight to understand the tower's weaknesses.
He was thus shocked when, 10 years before the end of the Cataclysm, the most massive incursion of dwarves and their titans came swarming out of the mountains towards the tower of pain. Leading them was no ordinary titan, however. It towered 70 feet in the air, and surrounding it was a silvery aura in the shape of a bald dwarf wielding two axes. The titan had been crafted by the dwarven priests, and now housed an avatar of their god Clanggedin Silverbeard.
Clanggedin, through the titan, advanced on the tower, and managed to shear off the top two floors before Jivan walked out of the tower and faced him head on. Knowing it meant his death, he utilized all 9 of the jewels of Harash-Addar, creating a cone of force so massive it ripped the titan apart, and shattered the mountains behind it.
His last sight, as his life and body were consumed by the gems and his consciousness expanded ever outward, was a clear sight of Melnibone, hundreds of miles away, the view from the top of his beloved tower no longer obstructed by the offending mountains, having now been replaced by a great wasteland.
