Overview:
The
Taachlaz Mountains are a source of granite and limestone, veins of metals and occasional semi-precious stones. Located on exposed southern face of mountains roughly 1.5 days north of
Fayah .
History and Layout:
The quarry and mine complex north of Fayah have been built in two directions. Nadabi settlers began to quarry and mine here starting after the
Mabahan Expansion, while the
Deep Dwarfs had been here for generations mining and quarrying while living primarily below ground. Thus the quarries and mines maintained by the dwarfs began well below ground and moved upwards towards the surface, with the Nadabi sections started at the surface and proceeded down towards the old Dwarfen sections. The
Underworkers of Fayah have now created a joint camp underground at the lowest sections of the Nadabi, and the upper most areas of Dwarfen, excavations. Camp
Homestrike is a symbol of unity and pride for the Underworkers. It houses a forge and tinkers shop for repairs, a small mushroom farm, communal kitchens, bunkhouses and a bathhouse. The Nadabi first began quarrying to fortify the town that they built around the pre-existing Zirazi trading outpost near the mine. Once the port cities of
Dhuwai and Abtalje were founded, stone began to be sent from these quarries. With the completion of the port districts and walls of these cities, the need for massive supplies of stone decreased, leaving section of the quarry abandoned - while more modest stone quarrying continues for new additions to the cities, including the newer manor houses of Fayah.
Output:
The deep dwarfs were here mining and quarrying for adamantium and
Gleamstone, along with malachite and diamonds . They have kept the adamantium and gleamstone mine and quarry secret, and large proportions, if not all, the gleamstone quarried in the
Taachlaz Mountains continue to be ferried south to the
Diarchy of Ziraz.
The upper Nadabi quarries have been the major source of limestone and granite for Fayah and other nearby settlements. Recently deposites of topaz and tourmaline have been found and are now being actively mined for trade.
Areas within the complex:
Upper areas (manned primarily by the Nadabi):
- Site 1: No longer used for mining or quarrying; site 1 was the first area excavated by the Nabdai. It originally existed on a seam sepparting a large limestone deposit from the nearby granite, allowing for two types of stone to be quarried from the same locale.
- Site 2: Marble mine, deeper than site 1, but connected by one of the oldest and most stable built by the Nadabi.
- Site 3: Semi-precious stone mine (topaz and tourmaline) worked by Deep Dwarfs and Nadabi
- Site 4: active limestone quarry
Lower areas (mined primarily by the Deep Dwarfs):
- Vishapak'ar: Gleamstone Quarry, hidden from non-Deep Dwarfs
- Andrdveli: Mithril Mine, hiddne from non-Deep Dwarfs
- Krak'ar: Limestone Quarry
- Voski: Gold mine (beneath Site 3) and diamond mine - worked by Deep Dwarfs and nadabi
- Grant: Granite quarry worked by Deep Dwarfs and Nadabi
