Kel-Azaan
Kel-Azaan are a species of bipedal arthropoids that originated on the savannah world of Azak. Standing well over two metres tall on average, Azaans are among the strongest species in the galaxy. Due to extremely dense and efficient muscles, an average Kel-Azaan is capable of (with some effort) flipping a one-ton vehicle over. Thanks to this immense strength and a culture that prioritises individual martial skill, Azaans are regularly rated as the deadliest warriors in the galaxy.
Azaans evolved from lone predators that stalked migratory herbivore herds between watering holes on their homeworld. However, what began Kel-Azaan society was these individual predators teaming up into bands in order to take down increasingly large prey. This culminated in the development of agriculture and urbanisation, but modern Kel-Azaan exhibit significantly more social anxiety when in crowded areas than other species.
Sociologists have noted that Kel-Azaan tend to favour long-established wisdom and traditions in their cognitive processes. Interestingly to those same sociologists, this does not appear to extend to governments, even long-lasting ones. Azaans often describe a longing for a collectively imagined past, one they often push their leadership to return to. It is believed that the development of the Kel-Azaan collective warrior/honourific code in the early 2100s CE is directly related to this.
