Satramene Gas

Satramene Gas is a type of naturally occurring hypnotic compatible with most forms of biological life. When viewed in the visible spectrum, it takes the form of a purple gas. When inhaled, satramene gas rapidly produces a calming effect on most intelligent forms of life, as well as making the subject more agreeable to suggestion. This has a use as a treatment for anxiety and depression, and also for crowd control purposes. Satramene gas is often consumed recreationally through inhalers, though the addictive qualities of the gas are well-known.

Due to high demand by the medical, scientific, law enforcement, and entertainment sectors, satramene gas is often expensive. While not as in demand as other exotic gases, it can be difficult to acquire on distant colonies. Satramene gas is mined from the upper atmospheres of some gas giants, as well as deep wells within planetary crusts. Notably, satramene gas is significantly rarer on planets orbiting Class G, K, and F stars. It is believed that the frequency of light impacts whether satramene gas can form. Satramene gas can also be created synthetically in refineries, though at significantly higher cost than typical extraction.
