Yatunea
Yatunea is a habitable ocean world, notable for being the homeworld of the Yatunes and the capital of the Yatunan Radicals. The planet is the second satellite of the Kon tal Mol System and has two orbiting moons of its own. The twin moon system, combined with a drastic axial tilt, active plate tectonics, and close proximity to the star, cause extreme weather systems such as hurricanes and tsunamis. Despite this powerful weather, surface-dwelling life was able to evolve in sheltered island coves across the archipelagos and microcontinents of the planet.
A majority of the population of Yatunea live in oceanic cities, either floating on the water or suspended above it via support columns. A smaller number live in cities on land, where a significant amount of mining and agriculture work takes place. Although trawling and fishing is a major industry on Yatunea, the harsh storms make it a risky business for ships on the open sea. Instead, land-based, hydroponic, or "fish farming" agriculture provides a majority of the planet's domestic food supply. Although over ninety percent of the planet's surface is covered in water, there are still many tens of millions of square kilometres of dry land available for habitation and explotiation. Power generation is primarily provided through tidal, wind, and geothermal sources, with limited solar and fusion sources.
In addition to planetary storms, the Kon tal Mol System is located in a hotspot for cosmic storms. Yatunea is regularly battered by the powerful astrometeorological phenomena due to both natural causes and artificial attraction. Significant emergency infrastructure has been constructed planetwide, ranging from strict building codes to resilient shelters and emergency response teams. However, most Yatunes do not hunker down in anything but the most extreme storms (both atmospheric and cosmic), and instead go about their business regardless. Partly due to the storms, and partly due to extensive advertising campaigns, Yatunea has a strong adventure tourism sector from both offworld Yatunean colonies and other nations.
Due to the constant inclement weather, traditional sea and air travel is hazardous. Although the development of repulsors alleviated some of the danger in flying, powerful storms continue to prevent air travel and spacecraft launches even in the mid 24th century CE. Travel is typically conducted via submarine, or in clear weather, ships and aircraft. On land, underground travel is safer, but prone to flooding during heavy storms.
