Yurantic Crystals
Yurantic Crystals are a type of naturally-forming crystal notable for their numerous transformative properties. When viewed under typical lighting conditions, they appear to be bright blue. However, when moderate amounts of energy are passed through yurantic crystals, they create a field that partially shrouds them from large segments of the electromagnetic spectrum. Experiments with these crystals led to the development of cloaking technology, and they are a critical component of all cloaking devices.
Proper refining allows for energy to be passed through yurantic crystals without generating a cloaking field. In this state, yurantic crystals act as powerful reflectors or magnifiers. This makes refined yurantic crystals extremely useful for lasers, sensor systems, and advanced electronics, depending on how the crystals are arranged. All modern laser weapons utilise yurantic lenses in their construction, allowing for minimal cohesion loss at extreme ranges.
However, yurantic crystals are very fragile, and care must be taken to avoid damaging them. Yurantic crystals grow faster in lower temperatures, and are thus most commonly found on asteroids, frozen worlds, and arctic worlds. On worlds with biospheres, they have been noted to grow on the exterior of trees, completely encasing them and creating what appears to be a 'crystalline forest'. They have also been found below the surface of oceans, where they often form amidst reefs. Extraction of the crystals is relatively simple, albeit delicate work. They can also be grown synthetically on an industrial scale, which many star nations do in order to secure their electronics supply chains.
