Fire magic
Fire. It has always held a special fascination and an inexplicable allure for many. This fascination is also reflected in the fact that fire magic is one of the most widely practiced magical disciplines in Mirintha. The manipulation of fire, smoke, and heat is a skill commonly found among the populace.
Fire magic is particularly popular among the Kadal, humans, and Vajoperi, while the Augalai generally keep their distance from it. It remains unclear whether this is due to a principled choice or simply a lack of aptitude for fire magic. Their nature could easily lend itself to either interpretation.
If I was half a tree, I wouldn't play around with fire magic either
For those with only a small amount of magical potential, it might be enough just to light a small flame in the night. But those who dedicate themselves to the full destructive force of fire are even capable of conjuring devastating infernos. However, great discipline is required, as spells of such disastrous power are not easily mastered.
“You don’t need to summon a fireball straight away, but surely you can manage a simple candle flame. If you can’t even do that, I doubt there’s a spark of magical talent in you at all.”
The most famous mage to have devoted himself to fire magic was Adalon Shianax. According to records from the Kadal, he was capable of summoning a fire avatar in the form of a phoenix. However, the Kadal mage met his end at just 70 years old, falling victim to an experiment in which he called forth an enormous pillar of flame—one that ultimately consumed him.
That sounds great. I wonder if he wrote down somewhere how he did it.
"...falling victim to an experiment in which he called forth an enormous pillar of flame—one that ultimately consumed him." I want to see more Wizards getting consumed by their own arcane greed.
That is what I thought as well. Also, it should be a warning for future players of my campaign.
