Rosenfeld
Villa Rosenfeld is a private estate in the former county of Fürth. It is owned by Ventrue Felicia Nadir, who only uses it from time to time. When the owner is absent, the rose gardens that give the name to the property are open to the public.
Purpose / Function
Villa Rosenfeld was commissioned by an English merchant in 1895 and completed in 1904. The rose gardens were laid out until 1910, and the three-winged building served as a residence for the merchant and his family when they were travelling in the Nuremberg area on business. During the First World War the villa has been an orphanage, during the Second World War Jewish refugees were allegedly hidden here.
After the end of the Second World War, the American occupying forces took control of the property and almost destroyed the Rose Garden. It was not until the early 1960s that they returned the estate to the merchant's family, who sold it to an unknown investor from Starnberg because of the destruction of the rose gardens.
A land register entry from 1993 confirms the transfer of the building together with the restored rose gardens to Miss Felicia Nadir, who has owned it ever since and lives in it for a few weeks every year. The owner first opened the rose gardens to the public in 1995 and allows selected biologists to cultivate the old rose varieties in the garden as long as they do not damage the garden.
Alterations
As part of the restoration of the gardens, they also changed the interior of the house. The windows were fitted with special security mechanisms; they installed a secret room in the basement, including steel in the walls and a sealable steel door. They set a further room up for the conservation of old papers and collectors' items and made fireproof.
During the time in the possession of the Americans, they adapted the building to American preferences. These changes were reversed so that the room layout on the upper floors now corresponds to the original plans from 1895. The decorations and columns on the facade destroyed in the war were elaborately reconstructed, and they repaired damage to the building fabric and roof.
