The Great Sea

Little is known of the Great Sea, and even less is known of the world beyond it. As far of the inhabitants of Miserlond are concerned, there is the continent, the coast, and a world of water they dare not enter. Of course, there have been those who have attempted the treacherous waters in the past, but very few have ever made it past the roiling waters that lie just beyond the safety of the shallows. Something about the way the tides roll in around the continent creates a nigh uncrossable barrier of moving waters that is prone to pulling ships below the surface, never to be seen again.
It is said that there is no world beyond the tides, and that the Great Sea leads to nowhere, eventually drifting off into space. Perhaps someday its waters will be explored, but for now they remain an enigma.
