Dusk Races

History

  When the fighting settled after the war against the Tyrants, Mistral had been irrevocably altered from the way it once was. One of the places most affected by the war were the Isles of Dusk - an archipelago of islands that became stuck in a permanent state of twilight. Despite the dangers of living in such a strange place, there were a few brave factions (elves, dwarves, and gnomes) that chose to remain. Over time, these three races adapted to the perpetual semi-darkness and learned to use it to their advantage.
The Isles of Dusk are a hostile place - rife with undead and strange monstrosities that delight in tormenting its populous. Its people have adapted over time, introducing a mandatory draft when residents reach the age of majority that lasts anywhere from 3-15 years, based on the lifespan of the individual. Those who participate are taught to defend themselves and their homes from any and all threats, and if they wish they are free to stay in an active combat position at the end of their duty.   The importance of strategy and strength on the Isles has given rise to a culture that appreciates a well-trained mind and body. Many of its peoples believe that if someone has not participated in a real battle, they are not fit to lead.

Basic Information

Biological Traits

The races from the Isles of Dusk possess superior vision in darkness and twilight. However, their lack of exposure to the sun means that they are much more vulnerable to it. All the dusk races possess the following traits.

Superior Darkvision

Accustomed to permanent gloom, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 120 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.  

Sunlight Sensitivity

You have disadvantage on attack rolls and on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight when you, the target of your attack, or whatever you are trying to perceive is in direct sunlight.
