WorldEmber 2023 Homework

Week 1

It’s my first ever WorldEmber and I'm going to focus on the development of the world of Mistralis. It’s a world that I created in 2018 but I only had the outlines : the different contries that make it up, who governs them, a short summary of their history and the diseases present in the world. I didn’t go too far and I did the same thing with my characters. Plus, the world has been without a name for almost 5 years, it only got the name Mistralis last month when I created my world on World Anvil.

I've got a lot of areas to work on to develop Mistralis properly and the idea is to work on them during December. And I’ve got some ideas where to start :
  • L’Aube Triomphante : Battle marking the beginning of the Timeline
  • The religions of Arimasu, Astary, Agrar, the Bloody Isles and Dve Chasti
  • The different diseases of Mistralis
  • Dve Chasti : History, Government
  • Le Cirque de l’Aube
  • Organizations playing an important role
    • The Hasegawa clan
    • The councils of the cities of Agrar
    • The former Royal Families of Theusil : Mysner, Harryses-Ryland and Corvus
    • The Sylpetor
    • The Diemer
  • The traditions of the differents countries
    • Tsuki no Kodomo for Arimasu
  • La prophétie des Quatres
  • Working on the major and minor characters: background, qualities and faults, motivation, etc.
    • Sayo
    • Will
    • Aurya
    • Saeh…
Working on these ideas will help me to flesh out Mistralis and visualize the main characters' adventures more clearly.

Week 2

Scope

I had some difficulties to begin this homework since my world meta is still under construction but I think I managed to do something. After re-reading my first week's homework, I made 5 axes for the building of the background of Mistralis : the major organizations/religions, the diseases, the characters, the traditions and misc (a prophecy and a battle).

Themes and mood

It’s a Fantasy world with magic and for the themes there is the battle against the evil force and after that, well it depends on the country but I can cite corrupt power and morality. Concerning the mood… I think it would depend on the article I will write.

Goals and inspiration

My goals are to have fun and to have a creative outlet where I can let my imagination run wild. I want to build an interesting world where I can tell the story of the main characters and maybe minor characters.
My inspiration comes mainly from fantasy novels I’ve read before. I also take inspiration from real life for my world. I also keep a pinterest board with all the imagerie for the characters : clothing, hairstyles…. I don’t have a playlist but it could be funny to do one since Mistralis has a lot of different cultures.

Week 3

This week's homework is to review the world's homepage, so I did it using some of the tips of the blog post.

Meta

The first thing that I did was to complete and improve Mistralis meta, it didn't have a lot of information before. I had more informations and details about the theme of the world, the focus, the drama, the scene and the people. Now the meta feel a little more complete.

Pitch and Mistralis introduction

After working on my meta, I wrote a pitch for Mistralis. It still didn’t have one, so I followed the tips of the blog post “HOW TO WRITE AN ELEVATOR PITCH FOR YOUR WORLD!” to help me. I now have a pitch that explains a bit about Mistralis' past, some of the ongoing conflicts and who we're following. It was really fun to do.
The last thing I did on my homepage was to create a little introduction to Mystralis to explain what people live in the world and where they live.

Week 4

WorldEmber is almost here and I’m looking forward to the challenge.

I don't really have a fixed place when I'm writing as I mainly use a laptop but I have folders and parts of GDoc ready. I think I'll also organize some of my favorites from my "stories" folder, as links from different projects are mixed together.

Concerning my writing schedule, well I think during the weekend, I'll be writing most of the day and for the week day, it will depend on the moment. For now I’m free most of my day but I will see how it will evolve during december. I will also try to write daily, be it 400 words, 80 words or 1000 words, the most important thing being not quantity but quality. I won't force myself to write if I don't feel like it. I can’t really force creativity.

During these four weeks, I also got some pictures ready for some of the articles and this has allowed me to experiment with AI prompt and Artbreeder and I think I've made some progress. Here are some sneak peeks of some of the characters (some may change in the futur).

Welcome to Worldember, I hope you have an excellent time! It seems like you have a good idea of what to do too, and that's always a great start.

It's my first WorldEmber too! Good luck, it sounds as though you have a lot of good starting points. :)
