Session 193 - Chamor's Egg
General Summary
20th to 25th of Nuzyael (First Month of Spring) 724TR
The story so far
Jolanta, and her trusty bodyguard Blaine, are agents of the mysterious Order of the White Hand, hunting down unscrupulous mages and covering up magical mishaps.
Jolanta has learned the location of an old enemy, the undead, dwarf killing warlock, Rantucci, who escaped her clutches months ago. She, accompanied by the Priest Otho, is tracking this monster down.
En route, they have saved the life of an annoying Ilvrian Pilgrim, Iggor Staven, and are escorting him to safety to Misyn's landing.
This is the continuation of Session 192 - The Pilgrim's Trail.
Location - Ilvir's Trail near Misyn.
Part 1 - Hippogriffs and a Glutton
The traveler's spot movement above the ridge, Hippogriffs are swooping in. The half-horse half-eagle chimeric monsters rip into the party, but they are more than capable of dealing with this threat. The hungry monsters are soon dispatched. They collect Hippogriff feathers, which may be used in arrows and writing implement, while Iggor takes their beaks and hoofs to sacrifice to Ilvir.
The next day the characters hear the crunching of bones and flesh rending. Carefully stalking forward, they see a bizarre creature, a Blemmyes, a rare ogre size Ivashu with no head, instead has eyes on its shoulder, and a massive toothed maw is found on its fat stomach. It is noisily devouring two human bodies among the shattered remains of a broken wagon.
Jolanta turns Invisible and carefully inspects the scene. She determines that the monster has attacked a band of Ivashu traders. It appears the beasts in the shattered cages have escaped (or been eaten). She decides not to attack and carefully watches while the monster devours the corpse and then moves off into the hills.
The characters arrive at Misyn's Landing, a small dock, and then escort Iggor to Ochrynn Abbey without further incidents. The grateful Iggor gives the characters some silver and pots of Holy Mud for their efforts and tolerance of his strange ways.
Location - Kabloqu Trail near Misyn.
Part 2 - Chamor's Egg
Not far from Misyn's landing, the trio spot Chamor's Egg, a floating egg-shaped crystal surrounded by a stone circle. The studious Jolanta makes a comprehensive study of this site from both a physical and arcane point of view. She discovers how to psionically attune to the egg and make it burst with light.
While Jolanta undertakes her investigation, a small band of Ilvrian Pilgrims from the City of Shiran passes by. They are led by Rico the Peddler selling a wide range of trinkets. Jolanta also spots the wreak of the Sentinel, a ship lost several years ago; however, she decides to return to the mission before considering plundering it. Her priority is finding and destroying the undead warlock.
Part 3 - Dwarven Crypt
Finding no clues as to where the dwarf hating Rantucci, the team travels alongside the Dygu River in the direction of the abandoned dwarven mines. They eventually find her first clue, a desecrated dwarven burial vault.
The vault has been torn open, likely a few months ago, and only a few bones are present. Otho suspects necromancy and ceremonially buries the remaining fragments of the bodies. However, sinister creatures lurk nearby, possibly minions of Rantucci; however, these Barbed Devils are a little threat and quickly expelled from this world.
To be continued.
