Session 250 - Dragon Hunting
General Summary
21th to 27th of Nolus (First month of Summer) 725TR
The story so far
The party discover that the commander of the Imrium Cohort, Parlyn Musbern, has a bounty on a local Dragon, the legendary Khalkhikus. However, they feel the bounty of only 2,000sp is suspiciously low. They have previously learned that some members of the Republic's Senate are Dragon cultist and wonder if this could be the reason.
Rather than battle an actual Dragon, which is likely far too dangerous, the great heroes decide to go Wyvern hunting, collect it's skull, and fraudulently claim the bounty.
This is the continuation of Session 249 - Clearing out an Infested Mine.
Location - Imrium Castle in the Thardic Republic.
Part 1 - Records of the Dragons
The studious Jolanta arrives at Imrium and immediately investigates everything she can find regarding dragons and wyverns. She sweet-talks Parlyn Musbern, the commander of the Imrium Cohort, and gains access to the district's records held at Imrium Castle. These papers go back hundreds of years, and what she finds surprises her.The Southern Rayesha Mountains seem to be a hotbed of Dragon activity. Jolanta identifies several likely nesting sites for wyverns and possibly a small valley possibly containing drakes. Given the massive number of sightings, Jollanta speculates that there may be a gateway to some magical realm where dragons dominate nearby. More interesting, there seems to be an active conspiracy, with many records altered or missing. There appears to be sightings of draconic creatures everywhere but on the nearby Mt Hikus.
With this information on hand the party heads off "Dragon Hunting" but hopes to avoid any real dragons.
Location - Southern Rayesha Mountains in the Thardic Republic.
Part 2 - Headless Hunters
The party starts hiking in the Rayesha mountains, following hunters and animal trials towards the potential wyvern sites Jolanta uncovered. Threats are few and far between.
However, on the night of the 3rd day of travel, the party's campfire attracts the attention of dangerous Ivashu. Five Blemmyes attempts to sneak up at night. The headless monsters cause much havoc but are destroyed.
Part 3 - Agrikian Hunters
Two days after that, the heroes meet another monster hunting party on the other side of an old, flimsy rope bridge crossing a chasm. These are Agrikian hunters who are looking for slaves or unusual beasts for the gladiatorial Pamesani Games.
This band of three Hunters, one Octagonal Pit Priest, and five Order of Pameshlu the Insatiable guards, with one being a ranking knight. Acheron, who dislikes this dark and evil religion, decides to provoke them to give him an excuse to make them disappear.
He crosses partly over the bridge. As one warrior starts to cross over the decrepit rope bridge, he begins jumping, causing it to sway, and then as the perplexed warrior takes a swipe at him, he grabs hold of a handrail and cuts the bridge. The bridge collapses, with the warrior precariously hanging from ropes from one side and Acharon on the other. The fight is on, and the priest's Flame Strike attacks are negated by Jolanta's Counterspell and Wall of Force.
Acheron uses magic to escape his predicament, Misty Stepping behind the most formidable enemy and pushing him over the chasm to his death. A vicious fight erupts; however, this brutal band is no match for the heroes; all are ruthlessly killed, even after they attempt to flee.
To be continued.
