The Earthmasters Myth in Misty Isle of Harn | World Anvil

The Earthmasters

Some of the inspiration and details are derived from Colombia Games.

Summary

The Earthmasters arrived on Hârn around 20,000 BT and departed about 15,000 BT. Little is known of these creatures, who they were, what they looked like or why they left, except that they were able to combine powerful magic, science, and psionics. They left behind many building sites and magical/psionic artifacts.

Their buildings were constructed of an impervious dark-gray stone material known as pseudostone and their most important constructions contain Godstones. Godstones are monolithic blocks usually five feet wide, three feet thick, and ten feet tall and function as teleportation devices.

Their monuments are held in awe by both the common folk and scholars. All have evil reputations and most have powerful magical/psionic auras which are strongly associated with weird, and often fatal events.

D&D 5E Notes

Earthmaster Artifacts

Although Earthmaster Artifacts do have magical elements they are more Psionics in nature. The Identify spell will only confirm that is of Earthmaster origin and combined with a Arcana skill check which may be able to determine if it is charged or requires attunement. Occasionally it may reveal other clues to its functions.

Earthmaster items can be attuned with by a process of mental and personality linkage. The Character makes a Charisma Check vs the DC of the item. If they succeed they understand and can use all functions. If they fail they can try again when they gain a level. Only one person can be attuned to an item at any one time.

If the character has Psionics Talents they use their Psionic Skill to attune to Earthmaster artifacts.

Earthmaster Mechanisms

Earthmaster Mechanisms are complex Earthmaster devices, such as Godstones, Psionic Doors or Elevators, which anyone with a Psionic Skill can potentially use. Multiple people can attune to any one mechanism at a time, provided they make a Psionic Skill check. If ever there is a conflict in instructions an opposed Psionic Skill check is made with the character with the highest roll succeeding.

Earthmaster artifacts and mechanisms are nearly indestructible.
