Cormac Eoin

Cormac Eoin was born to a wealthy Elven couple in the settlement of Yenlune, a small conclave within the High Forest 654 years ago. His father was a doctor of good renown in the region, and would often make the trip to surrounding settlements to serve in a medical capacity. Such trips would often include Silverymoon, the largest city within the High Forest, and one which includes a large Elven population. His mother was a sculptor, who carved beautiful things from wood. She too, would often take the trip to Silverymoon in order to sell her works. As such, while the family never was considered to be particularly wealthy or influential, they were known in their own circles.   Growing up, Cormac tended towards the sciences rather than the arts or athletics. He would spend hours of his day collecting various species of bugs and categorizing them into groups and subgroups. This, to Cormac, was more fun than any of the silly games played by other children in his settlement. And as a result, he had few friends growing up, although he never missed them. His mother had tried to get him into one of the local Feinel (an ancient elvish sport, akin to weird lacrosse) leagues, but they soon discovered that Cormac had some kind of lung weakness (known today as asthma). Knowing this, his father pushed for Cormac to follow in his own footsteps and become a doctor.   His father began to train him in his profession once Cormac reached adolescence. Lessons on diagnosis, medical theory, and basic surgery. Towards young adulthood, Cormac traveled to Silverymoon to study at a medical university there to round out his education. Taking advantage of the long lives of elves, over the next thirty years he studied topics in mathematics, physics, biology, chemistry, herbology, general medical practices, surgery, natural sciences, epidemiology, and a three year foray into zoology. These thirty years cemented his identity as a physician and a natural scientist. After his education, he returned to Yenlune for a few years to effectively apprentice to his father. During this time, his mother grew sick and wasted away from an unidentified disease. Just after her death, Cormac moved to Silverymoon to practice medicine on his own, focusing in studying disease, rather than traumatic injuries. He served as an in home physician for most of that time, seeing relatively well off patients in their homes and treating them for various ailments. During this period, Cormac met Essaerae, an Elven philosopher and poet. After a period of courting, the two married. For the next two hundred years, they lived together in relative stability, both enthralled with their work and the work ethic of their new partner. They had one daughter during this time: Celaena. When she was born, Cormac found one thing that drew his attention more than his work, she was in all senses of the phrase, the light of his life. In all the years to come, Cormac would look back on the half century he had with his entire family with a morose longing. It was the Rosen Doom, a colorful name for one of the many infections causing full body rashes and fevers. Despite Cormac’s medical knowledge, he could not save his wife and daughter as they succumbed to the disease.   For just under three hundred more years Cormac practiced medicine alone, with a vague air of moroseness surrounding wherever he went. His only interest seemed to be his research projects, cultivating strains of the Rosen Doom in rats and attempting to discover a treatment for the affliction. He succeed in creating a cure for this one disease after twenty five years, but he knew there were so many more out there that needed further research.   Fifteen years ago, Cormac left Silverymoon, citing a more remote climate is necessary for his research. This climate, he found in the boomtown of Mythrite, moving there to start up another practice to support his main interests. He currently lives in a small home in Reverie, with a clinic in the Services and Trade Corridor. He is known around town, although he displays no particular amount of influence in any social circles. In academic circles however, he will often be consulted for his several hundred years of scientific experience. Most recently, Cormac has grown interested in the taxonomy and anatomy of local monsters, and any diseases they may carry. This has resulted in Cormac making several trips outside of Mythrite’s walls with the intention of finding a specimen to study.
