Miners

Miners make up roughly a quarter of all workers in Mythrite. While some work in teams often connected by blood relations, many work as solo operators. Miners are responsible for purchasing land claims and the extraction of valuable ore from the hills for sale back in town. Some miners use elaborate techniques that require coordinated teamwork and sophisticated equipment, but the majority use rudimentary tools such as picks and pans to work their claim.
The backbreaking work gets more difficult as one grows older, so many older miners work for hire as prospectors (those who advise on where to mine to find the biggest veins) and surveyors (those who advise on claim purchases and boundary disputes).
As a general rule, miners work hard, eat simply, drink voraciously, and sleep like the dead. This difficult life is weighed against the chance of becoming impossibly rich overnight. Many live in the tight quarters The Halberd, putting them in close proximity to friends and rivals.
