Porsk
Leveraging his abundant charisma, musical talent, and ebullient personality, Porsk has established himself as a resident Entertainer and headline act at the Hall of the Mountain Kings! Porsk thrives in the rowdiness, drunkenness, promiscuity, and mayhem that constantly agitates Mythrite's most notorious flophouse. He finds joy in every moment of bawdiness, brawl, and binge that the Hall provides – and instigates more than his fair share.
Raised in a family of notoriously talented tinkers – and equally talented musicians – Porsk spent his youth mastering both family trades as the youngest of seven siblings. His parents owned a modest but successful boutique in Baldur's Gate, selling intricately customized music boxes and clockwork toys to the city's affluent. The family's passion for creating these inventive tokens was rivaled only by their love for music. As a result, the boy spent his days tinkering and nights performing in the family band – a popular nine-piece music ensemble.
As he grew, he was frequently badgered by his older siblings – jealous of his superior musical talents and the preferential treatment given by his parents. The young Porsk retaliated by playing his brothers and sisters against one another as he would play a stringed instrument: coyly and expertly picking at weaknesses, plucking at insecurities, bending truths, and rubbing at discords. As an instigator and innocent bystander, he took great satisfaction from the ensuing fights, tantrums, and tears.
The family’s burgeoning musical reputation and moneyed connections led them to regular feasting-hall performances on the upper floor of the Helm and Cloak: a high-end inn and tavern popular with travelers and locals alike. Young Porsk came of age there, entertaining exotic guests and (only slightly more discretely) their bored daughters and wives. Ultimately surfacing as a dashing soloist and gifted lute player, a blurry musical residency at The Elfsong Tavern ingratiated him with a beguiling variety of lawbreakers, adventurers, and entrepreneurs. He found their lust for life utterly contagious. With backroom stories as his map and excitement as his compass, he was inexorably drawn to Mythrite.
Though a resident of Mythrite for just under a year, Porsk quickly and capably took center stage at the city’s most infamous public house. His rousing, bawdy solo performances, and the dueling troupe routines he orchestrates consistently pack the house and loosen customers’ purses. Consequently, he generates a bankable business for proprietors for which he has deftly bartered an abundant share of food, drink, and recreational Black Lotus to suit his personal need – as well as regular (if a bit itchy) lodging in the seedy communal apartments above the Hall.
Porsk is immune and/or apathetic to the mounting politics, tensions, and threats that have begun to permeate life in Mythrite. As far as he is concerned, just being alive in this boomtown is a wonderful thing. Regardless of whether others find fortune here or die trying – whether he stays or just passes through – his plan is to squeeze every ounce of enjoyment out of Mythrite as long as the pleasure stays ripe for the plucking.
