Helaine Eractus
Captain Helaine Eractus
You protest having someone who bears half their blood from another world meddle in your affairs, but it's far too late to raise an objection. The Tensakutans have come and gone as they pleased for ages, and they've brought Outworlders with them all that time. Why is this suddenly a problem? [...] Fine, then. I ask you two more questions: have any of your people been in space before, or managed a craft of this magnitude? No? Then, as the only Mixolysian presence who has had any experience with space, I am the most qualified applicant. Consider your choices carefully.Helaine Eractus is the current Captain of the Freesia Space Station. She is half-Outworlder, half-Cross-Ley, and her particular Outworlder heritage is from a spacefaring civilization that had a small group follow the Tensakutans across their pan-dimensional diaspora. As a result, she came with practical knowledge of space and spacecraft that no other applicant for the Freesia's crew had. She seemed to be a shoo-in for the position given that quality, yet some members of the committee had misgivings about allowing someone with such distant origins to take the lead of such an important project. All the same, she persevered, and was chosen to become the Captain. Her command of server-based song magic is incredibly powerful, allowing her to wield destructive energies as well as defensive magic. She has even crafted four "Melodicores" that can run songs alongside whichever song magic she is currently singing. The cores also have other functions programmed in, including remote monitoring and projection of images. She is acutely familiar with the song magic used in the Freesia's systems as well, including the AI Artificial Pactone Lito. She's also a very good cook, making dishes from her alien culture, cultures she has encountered while traveling with the Freesia, and Mixolys itself. Her favorite meal is a large pot of Zerzer Grub Stew, but rumors say that her muffins are to die for.
Why are there so many people asking about my meals? It's none of their concern. Though I do have a recipe for homemade Lakmil Milk Cheesecake I've been working on...
Personality Data
Helaine seems very stodgy, stern, and perhaps a bit excessively focused on minute details at first blush. She speaks formally and firmly in most situations, which can come off as intimidating. She wields her clout where she needs to, has a strong memory, and perhaps a has a slight tendency to hold a grudge, as she will bring up people's past errors to keep them in check. Her devotion to her position as the station's captain can cause her to hyperfocus on tasks regarding the station's management and upkeep, sometimes to the dereliction of other tasks. It's not uncommon for her to completely ignore anyone trying to get her attention during these phases, and when she realizes she's being bothered, she will get very irritated. Behind closed doors and when she deems that the day's work is really, truly done (the woman puts in some serious overtime hours), one might get to see a different side of the captain. She relaxes significantly when her to-do list is complete, wearing the most comfortable clothes she can pull out quickly and curling up with a good book (sometimes on a serious topic like a given world's foreign policy, sometimes regular fiction of various sorts; rumors have it that someone spotted a comic book once). Her demeanor changes from her usual super-uptight way of carrying herself to a very casual, friendly, almost open sort of personality. One might even get to see her smile, or hear her discuss her past or an enjoyment of soft things. There's a rumor that she has invited a group of Puffskis aboard the Freesia and regularly allows them into her quarters to pet them and talk to them when all the work is done. Neither she or the puffskis will confirm or deny such a thing.Mental characteristics

Let me just say, as a biracial person (I'm not a woman but I am biracial) I adore this lady. She's awesome and badass, but also has her flaws. The only real issue I saw with the writing is one little sentence: "and perhaps a has a slight tendency to hold a grudge," I think that "a" after perhaps isn't supposed to be there? But this is a good article, and I can't wait to see it fleshed out more! I want to know more about her personal history.
