Anti-contraband

The Anti-contraband is one of the two elite forces of the Menicean Army. Lurking in the shadows, they track down the most dangerous outlaws of the continent and bring down whole networks of contraband. Only the best recruits of the army's training camps can join it after an additional practice.

Organization

Just like any other army corps, the Anti-contraband is led by a general who gives their priorities to its subordinates and attends the military council. However, it is the only similarity it has with the other branches.
Man, you've been single for so long I'm starting to think you want to join the anti-contraband.
While the anti-contraband does have squads, these never stay at the same place. Members of this army corps are always on the move, going from cases to cases sometimes at the other side of the continent. Joining the AC often means giving up on living a regular life until retirement as members are strictly regulated on relationships.   Since their work is about sneaking into dangerous outlaw groups, they have to be very careful about their cover. Luckily, the fact that gerouns have fur means they can dye it, which largely reduces the risks of someone recognizing them during or after an infiltration. Instead of calling infiltrated spies "moles," gerouns call them "tiaplos," a reference to the species' ability to change their fur's color at will to hide and strike in the back.
Looks like there's a tiaplo in the pack...

Between law and danger

Members of the anti-contraband find themselves at a special spot regarding the divine prohibition of murder. While this does not apply to dangerous criminals who already took someone else's life, it is supposed to be forbidden to kill an outlaw, even if they are potentially dangerous.   However, after many cases where agents' cover was compromised by an individual and ended up killed or severely injured, past kings consented to review the law. Since they defend the continent from the most dangerous kind of outlaws, inspectors can end the life of a proven criminal if they endanger the continuity of the investigation. Still, they have to make a complete report on why it was necessary and how they knew that the victim was an outlaw.   If an inspector fails to justify one of their murder, they can face severe consequences from suspension to prison.
