This page is the hub of all the articles related to the army. If you are looking for a specific division, please check the list below.
Global organization
The Menicean forces are led by the Chief commander who is himself in close conversation with the king. He also attends to the royal council where he participates in the debates held there. The Military Council
This council is the highest instance in the army. It is composed by the Chief commander who leads it and the Four generals that are each responsible of one of the four branches of the army :- The City guards
- The Territorial patrols who keep the roads and shore safe and ensuring that no foreigner set foot on the lands without permission.
- The Anti-contraband that, just like its name implies, tracks down highly wanted outlaws and black markets.
- The Royal guards are located in Nelandra and work as city guards there. However, they are called in cases of crisis anywhere on the continent if the local forces aren't enough.
Recruitement
Every Gérouns can apply to the army once they made their pilgrimage. They only need to reach the nearest barracks to start the procedure. The potential recruit will start with a physical exam, checking if they do not have any trouble that might make them unable to follow the training. Once done, volunteers will have an exam where their actual combat, survival and examination skills will be tested to send them in the right division. All recruits will be trained in one of the three training camps at the south of Nélandra. All fields are a few kilometers away from each other but share the surrounding areas where forest training, hunts, and survival camps are organized. The training is three years-long, where recruits will build muscles, combat skills and discipline. A lot of them will actually give up, as the exercises are rough and efforts needed are considerable. The Prexyann Family is also paid to give lessons to recruits each year, which brings mixed feelings of honor and fear to the pupils. While being able to learn from such experts is a true honor, senior trainees often talk about the roughness of their lessons, mostly exaggerating to bully their younger comrades. After their third month, each recruit has to choose a melee and distance weapon that will become their specialties. Teachers almost always take the time to oversee the choice of each pupil to ensure they make the right one. Trainees are entirely isolated from the rest of the world during these three years. Seeing anyone is forbidden, and they can only send a few letters to their friends and family. Each year, a friendly tournament is organized to strengthen the bonds between each camp. Winners are given bonus points on the continuous evaluation that starts at the very moment volunteers arrive at the fields. During each exercise, people win or lose points that will allow them to apply or not to a specific branch of the army. Points are represented by grades in the following categories: Combat, Survival, Stealth, Stamina, Teamwork. Based on these, people can choose which branch they will join.- City guards accepts everyone and will be the default choice of a recruit with low scores.
- Territorial patrols ask for an average score on both survival and stamina since their work consists of long walks.
- Anti-contraband is a tough pick as they ask for high scores in teamwork, stealth, and survival. They only recruit a few people per promotion.
- Royal guards are also picky. They only take the best elements that they will train furthermore in their own barracks.
Subsidiary Organizations
I imagine it's quite a blow to one's pride to fall out of the training program! Do they return home, or remain and fulfill minor duties and jobs around the place to stay close to it all and help where they can?
It depends on when they fail. If they fail the initial exams before they are even taken to the camps, they just go back to their regular lives. People who fail the camps can do that too, or they can be offered to serve the army in other ways, like being a military cook or things like that. :)
