Welden

Deep in the central south of Elyades, Welden is the granary and the second most populated village of the region. Its surroundings are where the forest gets scarce due to the vast amount of fields needed to feed everyone.

Layout

Welden lays on the southern side of the "Sanna fatia" river, in the middle of its colorful fields. Slightly hilly, the landscape is covered by the many cultivated plots and dotted by warehouses, plows, and white-winged windmills.   No walls surround the village but a small palisade to keep wild animals out. Houses are built around a central place where people gather at dusk or during festive days. In the middle of the site is an old poigrumier that is still giving fruits each year, and shelters the local Nelandrean altar.   A single, large inn provides the locals with good ale and food every day. Outsiders rarely stay in Welden for the night, as Piatarnia tends to draw all the attention. Whenever someone decides to sleep at the inn, they are often asked to spend some time to tell their stories.

Demographics

Welden's population is definitely more rural than the region's main city Piatarnia's. Around 500 people live in the farmers' village, and all of them work in the fields.   During both sunny and rainy days, songs can be heard from the cultures whenever people are working. Farmers entertain and motivate themselves with rhythmic and sometimes bawdy melodies throughout the day. Their repertoire only seems to improve with each generation as more and more foreigners come by to taste the Karnassians' liquor or to improve Elyades' infrastructures.   Proud and fierce participants of the Ruby tournament, Weldenians tend to prefer to bet on fights between gerouns rather than those between roosters. Alongside Sylvians, their everyday work gives them an excellent physical condition. Fighters from these two villages are always tough opponents.
I must say, Elyades was the last place where I thought I'd hear a bawdy human song. These guys sure know the good stuff.

Assets and infrastructure

Water for the fields comes from the "Sanna fatia" river. The few people living in houses outside the village's walls also tend to take their water there, but otherwise, a few wells were dug within the palisade.   Outsiders are often stunned when they get to see the locals' mills and farming tools. Thanks to the government's investment in Morknar counseling, Elyades' workers are provided with the best tools of the continent. This made the amount of harvest drastically increase shortly after the investment, resulting in Elyades being able to export some of its grain to the nearby region of Odelia, and especially to its capital Silver-Dust.   Welden's police force comes from Piatarnia's garrison. They are called each time they are needed but still come by every two days to make sure everything is alright, while they only do so once a week in Sylve. Welden has sinister rumors running around about weird movements at night. Criminality rose over the last decades and the few trails policemen found always led them to the farmers' village. The governance council of Elyades assured people they were investigating, but no definitive result has yet to be made.
