Mab

Queen Mab (a.k.a. The Queen of Air and Darkness)

Queen Mab, the ruler of the Unseelie Court, is a striking and formidable figure who embodies the essence of winter’s harsh beauty and inexorable power. As the Queen of Air and Darkness, she reigns from her throne in the Winter Court, a realm of perpetual frost and shadow. Her presence commands both awe and fear, and she is known for her cold, calculating demeanor and formidable magical abilities.   Queen Mab rarely takes form, residing as dark and wind. But when she takes an glamoured form, it is often depicted as an ethereal and terrifyingly beautiful figure, embodying the chilling elegance of winter. She appears as a tall, slender woman with an otherworldly grace, her skin as pale as freshly fallen snow and her eyes a piercing, icy blue. Her hair flows like a cascade of moonlit frost, shifting and shimmering with a life of its own. She wears a gown of midnight blue and silver, adorned with intricate patterns of frost and icicles that seem to shift and move as if alive. Her presence is accompanied by a palpable aura of cold that can chill the very air around her, and her voice, when she speaks, is as smooth and sharp as a blade of ice.   Queen Mab’s domain, the Winter Court, is a realm of eternal night and unending frost. The landscape is characterized by vast, frozen wastelands, ice-covered forests, and glittering palaces made of crystalline ice. This realm is both beautiful and treacherous, with the biting cold and shifting ice posing constant threats to those who enter. The Winter Court’s magic reflects Mab’s own nature, focusing on ice, shadows, and the manipulation of cold. Her power allows her to command blizzards, summon icy apparitions, and create illusions that freeze the heart and mind.   As a ruler, Queen Mab is known for her cold and unyielding demeanor. She is a master of manipulation and strategy, using her power and influence to maintain control over her court and to further her own enigmatic goals. Mab’s judgment is often harsh and unforgiving, and she has little patience for failure or betrayal. Her decisions are driven by a desire to maintain the balance of The Feywild, though her methods can be severe and ruthless.   Despite her harsh nature, Queen Mab is not without a sense of grandeur and pride. She takes immense pride in her realm and her own regal bearing, and she expects the same level of respect and deference from those around her. Her court is a place of intrigue and political maneuvering, with fey nobles constantly vying for her favor or plotting to undermine her authority.   Queen Mab’s primary rival is her sister, Queen Titania of the Seelie Court. The enmity between the two is as ancient as the cycles of the seasons themselves, representing the eternal conflict between winter and summer. Mab’s interactions with Titania are marked by a deep-seated animosity, and their rivalry often spills over into conflicts between their respective courts.   Mab also exerts significant influence over the Autumn Court. Though the Autumn Court lacks a single ruler, the fey of this realm are often under Mab’s sway, using the court’s power and influence to further her own aims.   Queen Mab is a figure of nightmares and dark dreams. Her influence extends into the mortal world, where she is said to have the power to enter dreams and manipulate the fears and desires of those who sleep. She is also known to reward or punish mortals based on their actions or their alignment with her own interests, though her motivations can be as inscrutable as the depths of winter.   Queen Mab is a complex and formidable figure, embodying the cold majesty of winter and the darker aspects of the Feywild. Her rule over the Unseelie Court is marked by an unyielding commitment to the balance of nature’s cycles, though her methods are often harsh and her demeanor aloof. She is a queen of ice and shadows, whose presence is both mesmerizing and fearsome, commanding respect and evoking dread in equal measure.
