Niklas is Tertius' uncle by marriage to his aunt, Doiranne Ohlan-McGowan. He was invited to the ill-fated wedding of Lysandrea Isillionthë and Maximillian D'arlington at the Silver Lodge. He seemed intrigued by Levi, both by his shared Northlander heritage, as well as his apparent attentions toward Tertius.
It was revealed to Levi that while Nikla and Doiranne are married, they do not share a marital bed. Instead Niklas stays with his valet and she stays with her lady's maid, implying more of an intimate relationship between the servants with their lords.
