Session 28: Siege of the League Report in Moontide Isles | World Anvil

Session 28: Siege of the League

General Summary

The party found themselves standing just outside of their guild hall, with the building surrounded by kobolds with torches. The kobolds ahead of them had a catapult and they were quickly reloading it, while their leader, one of the kobolds released in the Scarlet Hills, returned, vowing revenge and yipping angry insults at the party. Making matters worse was the silhouette of a young black dragon that the party saw circling in the skies above.   The party quickly readied to defend themselves and the guildhall as the kobolds advanced. The kobolds tossed their torches when they neared the buildings, setting a few small fires outside of the guild as well as setting fire to the stables. Reggie rushed back inside the guild hall and started to put out the fires at the back of the building made from the advancing kobolds.   The black dragon, who is believed to be a god by the kobold clan, found an opportunity to breathe acid onto both Levi and Bolvaic as it kept to the air to stay out of the range of the warriors. Illbryen assaulted the dragon with guiding bolt spells while Illeveare used call lightning to strike the dragon in the air. Tiarjead used her thorned bow to strike at the kobolds in the distance manning the catapult. Tertius raced to the burning stable to free the horses inside.   Despite taunting, the dragon stayed out of the range of Bolvaic who cut through the advancing kobolds as they rushed the guild hall with their torches. Levi continued forward to reach the catapult, but not before they fired another shot–however, their aim was off and instead of hitting either the party or the guildhall, the rock bounced along the ground and smashed the statue of Wendall Wallace, causing a triumphant cheer from the kobolds who were a little surprised when the party echoed the triumphant cheer at the statue’s destruction.   Tiarjead continued to fire at the kobolds and the dragon swooped down and snatched Levi in its claws and started to fly him directly upward. Illeveare struck the dragon again with lightning, also striking Levi and Ilbryen hit him once again with a guiding bolt. The doors to the stables flew open and the riding horses ran out along with Tertius riding Strawberry. Tertius rode out onto the battlefield and used a rallying cry that healed Levi and Bolvaic a bit. After the strikes from magic, the dragon stopped rising and instead flew into range of Ilbryen and breathed acid onto them before arcing and continuing to fly upward with Levi, presumably to drop him from a great height. Ilbryen fell from the acid breath, causing them to collapse. Levi attacked the dragon from its grasp, trying to get it to fall before he was taken too high. Bolvaic slew another kobold and cursed and taunted the dragon, tossing the kobold’s body at him to try to draw him near, but grievously injured the dragon was looking to flee and Illeveare send their Sprout over to heal Ilbryen, bringing them back to painful consciousness.   Just before the dragon could flee, Tertius was able to throw one of his hand axes at the dragon from below, though his blow ended up hitting Levi instead. The dragon, grievously injured, dropped Levi to the ground and began to flee as fast as it could. The kobolds were mostly slain, though the taunting leader remained, but saw the dragon flee and he began to flee. Injured from one of Tiarjead’s arrows, he was able to avoid her departing shots. Tertius, riding Strawberry, rode by and swooped Levi up onto his horse’s back and charged after the kobold. Levi leaned off of the horse to swing, taking the kobold down. However, as he fell, runic tattoos sleeving his arm glowed brightly and brought the kobold back from death’s door. Levi stumbled off of the horse trying to strike him again. The three remaining kobolds all surrendered and Bolvaic slew one and captured the remaining two.   The kobold leader, meanwhile, cursed out a threat at Levi as he stabbed at him with his dagger, taunting Levi to kill him and he would come back as a ghost or a zombie and haunt them and still destroy them. Levi then slew the kobold. The runic tattoos glowed again and the light seemed to flow out and form a tattoo needle, obviously magical. Levi collected the needle and returned to the group.   The fires were put out and the party gathered to assess everything. The prisoners were interrogated and they discovered that they came from the swamp (technically, a bog) to the north–the same one that the hags inhabit. They believed that the dragon was a god and that the world came from its shell when it hatched. This caused a little bit of questioning of faith as when one of the kobolds’ was asked who the dragon’s mother was, it said it was a god and that there was no mother, he hatched from an egg–but someone had to lay the egg. The minor crisis of faith was ignored and the party deemed that they were only following orders and decided that instead of executing prisoners, they would once again release two kobolds that had tried to kill them back into the world as that never seems to go wrong.   Shortly after, town guards arrived in a hurry. Their watchers had spotted the dragon and they rushed out to see where it was attacking. They were surprised and impressed at the party harrying the dragon into retreat and they went off to pursue it while one of their group was sent back to Eastbridge to make a report. Ilbryen identified the tattoo needle for Levi, finding it to be a lifewell tattoo and Levi applied it, creating a sleeve tattoo that includes a bear, three wolves, and Strawberry.   Tired, hurt, and spent, the party returned to their guildhall, still smoldering in a few places, for sleep.
