Session 53: The Triumvirate of Choices Report in Moontide Isles | World Anvil

Session 53: The Triumvirate of Choices

General Summary

Morning arrives at the guildhall and Levi sees his grandfather, Obadiah, having breakfast. Obadiah tells Levi that he senses the Great Bear’s spirit within him, asking if he’s had any encounters. Levi explains his encounter with the bear spirit and Obadiah takes Levi outside to try to teach him to harness the spirit within him. Obadiah tried to get Levi to focus on the bear, but his mundane possessions were holding him back. Once undressed, Levi was able to wild shape into a brown bear for the first time. The pair returned to the guildhall as the waking party verified that it was, indeed, Levi. After his transformation back to himself and getting dressed again, Obadiah decided to address the party with what he knew.

Obadiah’s Plea

Obidiah was on the isle of Llywelyn, investigating the Blood Tribes. The Blood Tribes are tribes of semi-feral lycanthropes that roam the isle. While aggressive toward the non-lycanthropic residents of the isle, they are a menace that can be dealt with. However, over the past couple of years, a group known as the Cult of the Claw has been uniting the Blood Tribes, wresting control of the groups to serve under one purpose. This has given the typically chaotic werebeasts of the isles direction and a singular purpose. The Cult, he has discovered, is led by a man who calls himself Ulfr, whom Obidiah believes is an apex werewolf. He confirmed with the party that the Cult seemed to be working with the Oleander Throne.   Obadiah believes that they have been corrupting the Moonwells for two purposes. Firstly, it has allowed them to surpass the fey’s natural immunity to lycanthropy. But second, he believes that they are trying to call the Wild Hunt. Obadiah believes that it is Ulfr’s intention to get the attention of the Hunt and to challenge the hunting pack dog’s alpha to wrest control of the pack and lead the hunt through the cities of the isles to slay or infect everyone who is not a member of the Blood Tribes. This seems somewhat contrary to what the Oleander Throne would want, so Obadiah surmises that Ulfr may be acting with his own agenda.   Obadiah believes that with Ulfr gone, the coalition between the semi-feral lycanthropes would fall apart and not be the growing threat they are now. He asks the party to travel with him to the isle of Llywelyn to try to take down Ulfr to break up this powerful coalition.   As the party mulled the possibilities presented by Obadiah, Elkantar of House Teken’Duis returned to address Bolvaic’s friends.

The Call of House Teken’Duis

Elkantar speaks to the party on behalf of his House, stating his case to see if Bolvaic will honor the responsibilities that his clan and House Teken’Duis once held with one another. Elkantar tells the party that he will offer further information only if the group formally accepts his call, but he informs them of at least some of the issue.   He states that there have been several underground quakes and tremors that have caused flooding in some of the underground caverns. However, since the quakes, there have been more and more aberrations appearing in the deep tunnels–something that they do not believe is coincidence. Elkantar states that he has reason to believe that the quake and the aberrations' appearance are intentional as well. He states that they have mostly uncovered Slaad and Gibbering Creatures in the deep tunnels.   Ilbryen recognizes the Slaad as creatures that come from the plane of Limbo, but Tiarjead, who has hunted aberrations in the past, has more knowledge of them and their different types as well as their life cycles and how they reproduce.   Red Slaadi implant parasitic slaadi eggs ithrough its claws into a humanoid host. The egg hatches within a month and emerges as a blue slaad, or a green slaad if the humanoid was a host to powerful magic. Sometimes a red slaadi emerges. That says something about the host’s personality.   The Blue Slaad’s bite carries the Chaos Phage, which can mutate its host into a red slaad, regardless of their demeanor..   If killed, green slaad reincarnates as a blue slaad, which eventually metamorphosizes back into a green slaad.   Sometimes a green slaad will be struck with a brilliant idea, which causes them to explode. However, sometimes they instead transform into a grey slaad.   A grey slaad that eats a death slaad becomes a death slaad. However, it is impossible for there to have been a first death slaad if this is the case, so it is possible that the death slaad is just a grey slaad that is into death.   A death slaad that, through time travel, introduces paradoxes into its own timeline sometimes creates a Chronos Slaad. However, most of the time they just erase themselves from history. But since death slaads cannot travel through time, a chronos slaad must be a death slaad that will become a chronos slaad, otherwise it could not have done this.   A chronos slaad that is consumed by a sphere of annihilation becomes a void slaad. However, because of the improbability of all of these circumstances occurring to create a void slaad, the void slaad cannot exist. However, since entropy is inevitable, it probably exists.   As the party mulled over the life cycles of Slaad, Jorrunde arrived, having been summoned by Tertius, to report on what she had seen at sea.

Jorrunde’s Report

With the disbursement of the fog that used to cover the area around Port Raven, the High Queen’s navy has been patrolling the northern isles, harassing Northlander ships and trying to bring down a number of raiders. Because of this, Jorrunde has been sailing along the more southern isles. The isle of Ilfor has had a number of Oleander ships in its ports of late. With the High Queen’s navy focused on the northern isles, more ships from the mainland have landed along the southern isles. While sailing near Paraetonium, Jorrunde saw a giant maelstrom open up outside of the bay. The maelstrom did not remain open, instead seeming like it was controlled when it opened and closed.   It also seemed as if the city was on fire as multiple large plumes of smoke bellowed out from it. Technically, the High Queen has a ceasefire with the Oleander forces and they are allowed governorship of the isle of Ilfor. This means that there is likely not to be any response from the High Queen without proof of ill-intent. Proof would also bring the navies of the High Queen away from the northern isle of Askel and Port Raven and allow the Northlander fleets to operate once again. The longer they stay focused on Askel, the more likely the Ice Maiden will get the Northlanders to rise up against the High Queen.   The three scenes seemed to coincide, in part, with the vision that Illevaere had when looking into the Moonwell with their father. The party tried to decide which threats should be dealt with first, as they feared that there would not be enough time to take care of all three. The party ultimately decided that they would travel as a group with Elkentar of House Teken’Duis to deal with that problem first. Then, the party would split, recruiting who they could from the League of Adventurers to join them to handle the other crises. With that decision made, the party readied to travel with Elkantar.
