En'Gehen - Realm of Torment
"Many do not fear what comes from the afterlife, but those that do often claim they know what awaits them. I can say, with absolute certainty, that this is hubris on their part. After all, how could you possibly comprehend a place so vile and grotesque, that the worst beings in existence will do anything to escape it?"En'Gehen is a dimensional plane where the worst of the worst end up. People who sell their souls to demons for power, people who commit great atrocities, people who engage in blasphemy, are often said to end up here. How it came to be is not fully understood, and even fewer people can say what lies within. Thanks to the Orpheum, the Barrier of Dreams, any and all who pass through via death and resurrections, have little to no recollection of what they've seen. In the Zefira Rau Laudum, Alaric describes what little he knows of it from his conversations with The Mother Sun. He then parses it together based on his fellow Champions' discussions with their own deities. What little people know is not well understood, yet most people can be content knowing this is not a common place to go once one perishes, and is reserved for only the most extreme cases. Geography
The Realm is split into 7 Layers, each with a defining feature:
Zyzzyz: The Empty Path of Regret
This is usually the first stop in one's descent into En'Gehen. It is described as a massive pathway along which one walks. Their regrets manifest as apparitions and whispers, reminding them of what they could have been had they not been wicked. It is the realm of the Demon of Lies.Civavic: Ocean of Unmoving Water and Sorrow
If one's path leads them to Civavic, it is because sorrow is the most fitting punishment. Here they are submerged in a fetid pool of stagnant water where they feel the sorrow of those they wronged pull them deeper and deeper into the ocean. It is the Realm of the Demon of Revelry.Disecesid: Fields of Unending Sound and Fear
If one's path leads them to Civavic, it is because fear is the most fitting punishment. Here they are chased endlessly by apparitions who provoke frightful images and torment them eternally. Throughout they are constantly living their worst fears and are unable to make them stop. It is the realm of the Demon of Fear.Fernonref: Forge of Fiery Torment and Hate
If one's path leads them to Fernonref, it's because Hatred is the most fitting punishment. Here they are forced to fight and be fought by others who engage in a battlefield of fire and war. Their wounds do not heal, nor do the wounds they inflict on others. It is the realm of the Demon of Hatred.Necrorcen: City of Death and Hunger
If one's path leads them to Necrorcen, it is because Hunger is their most fitting punishment. Here they are forever lost in a massive city where nothing grows and all are forced to feel empty spiritually, mentally, and physically. Eventually they will atrophy until they wither and become a mindless beast focused solely on hunger. It is the realm of the Demon of Decay. The Void
All who come to En'Gehen can also find themselves in The Void. Often one finds themselves here when they have nothing else to give and the torment grows too great. Often those who sink to the lowest levels of their respective layer can find themselves here. It is the Realm of the Demon of Madness. The End Layer - ?
Alaric asked the Mother Sun why they only described six layers when they said there are seven layers. The Mother Sun admitted, though they know it exists, it is so far beyond their sight that even they do not know what resides there. As far as they can tell, one simply ceases to exist beyond the End Layer.
