Signet Safe

The Signet Safe is a magic item that does not require attunement. Rather it is a simple treasure chest that cannot be destroyed by non-magical means. It is a popular chest used among nobles in banks and monetary transactions. Created by Gideon the Craftsman, Feodor the Wise's first son, it was a useful tool in ensuring the trade of goods and money was secure during the formation of the empire.    The chest does not contain breathable air when closed and is unable to carry any living creature. If a living creature is placed in the box then the chest will immediately open and spit out all contents in a space next to it.   The Signet Safe comes in three sizes:
  1. small (can carry up to 200 lbs and is 1 ft cubed).
  2. medium (can carry up to 1000 lbs and is 2 ft cubed).
  3. large (can carry up to 5000 lbs and is 5 ft cubed).
The chest has three modes: Unassigned, Assigned, and Sealed.
  • Unassigned: This is when a Signet Safe does not yet have an owner. In this state the Signet Safe will contain useful material but will be unable to lock. This is the least secure method, and while a regular lock can be used, it still is easy to break in due to the lack of a magical lock. This is often how most chests are when they are first made.
  • Assigned: When a box is assigned it is magically keyed to a specific person or people by a teller or banker. In this manner, the person creates a three key combination they can share with others. They are also given the option to create a secondary key that will discretely remind them of their original key code. This secondary key code can be a spoken word or phrase, an image conjured or provided,  or hand-print. While this way, the one using the Signet Safe can freely open and close the object, and store as much material as they see fit.
  • Sealed: Only the one whom is Assigned to the Signet Safe can set and unset this mode. In this manner, the Signet Safe cannot be opened unless both the key code and secondary key code are met. The Signet Safe is then magically locked to the next flat surface it is placed upon. It will remain in this state until it is unlocked.
Note: Unless specifically warded, the Signet Safe can be opened with a Knock Spell, or similar magic. If in Sealed Mode it will require three castings of Knock within 24 hours to unseal, or it will need to be cast again.

Utility

Access & Availability
Moderately rare: A small safe is worth 500 GP in most areas and worth 1000 GP in Alloyus. Most major merchants and banks have them. They can be purchased but most banks will not do so without the buyer having a specific writ or permit signed by a local lord or clergy member.
Complexity
This object makes use of a normal chest of equal size, but the inside is lined with arcane symbols and copper sigils. The lock itself is made from 100 gp worth of melted gold, and is also inscribed with abjuration magic.
