After the 3rd Convergence magic became stagnate. The magics divided, but had no way to interact with one another and the reality they were part of. The solution would be the creation of the first magic beings, the gods. The gods took various forms and personified the traits of the magics they each embodied. They can control their respective magic with just will. They have personalities, motivations, aspirations and flaws. The gods began to shape the world and push magic to evolve. They became the major influences to what we understand as magic today
Gods are not rulers or creators of their respective realms. It is actually the opposite. Gods are the manifestations or entities of their respective magic. So really, they are just magic given form and thought. Thus Gods act accord to the nature of the magic they manifest. They are free to make choices and meddle with the world around them. They have memories, personality’s, interactions, grudges, favorites, and traditions. Really the only differences between a god and an unspoken mage is the fact that the gobs are immortal and have more control over their magic due to millennias of experience. Also gods have various forms, with their true form usually being the most inhuman in appearance most powerful. They also have a common form which appears mostly human. This allows them to walk among people. They are have an animal form which takes form in a special version of their favorite animal.
Many magical items are associated with the items they wear or parts of the gods themselves. Gods can also grant what are called blessings. This gives the bearer a temporary mark that gives a gift from the god. Many gods also have sacred places beyond their home island. These places usually have magical properties, and know to be the frequently visited by their god. If you are looking for a god, scared places would be where to start.Gods also are notorious for their interactions with humans. As mentioned god are not perfect, just powerful everlasting beings. So they can love, hate, remember and forget. To those they hate, gods make suffer as to them death is escape from their wrath. Those hated but gods can expect a life of hardship unless they make peace with the gods or gain the favor of another god. To those they love, gods will give the gift of part of their essences. And if the love is reciprocated a child will be born. It is important to understand that while god can reproduce in standard ways they also can impregnate or bear a child without the need and physically reproduce. To those they remember, the gods assist and interact. And those they forget go on with there lives.
When not wondering the world, each of the gods inhabit the islands surrounding the Divine Nexus. A new god is manifested every time a new magic is created from condition in a changing world. Thus gods were not all amaifest at the same time. THe time they manifest greatly effect how they interact with other god. Gods manifest around the same time tend to act in familial relationships. FOr an example the life and death goddesses treat each other as sister as they manifested around the same times. THe "birth" order and familial organization is as follows:
