Houndsmoth Manor

Serving several purposes over the centuries in the Scottish Highlands, the history of Houndsmoth Manor is really the history of Mr. Houndsmoth himself (see The Fox Prince for in-universe context on Mr. Houndsmoth's shady origins).

From an abandoned fortress to a monastery to a hunting lodge to a summer home to the manor seen in the three seasons of The Heretics (of Houndsmoth), this school represents the established ways of humanity and its role in ushering a new era through the will of Houndsmoth.

Features:

The manor itself is an amalgam of a millennia worth of architectural designs, chief of those being a Scottish Castle teetering on the edge of a cliff overlooking the English Channel.

Its role in the series is an object of constant toil and upkeep. Everyone in the series plays a role and spends a large majority of their time keeping this decaying house from falling apart.

Inside the walls:

The manor has the trappings of a typical manor with jerry-rigged amenities such as electrical wiring and pipes added post-humorously.

Mrs. Quartermaster is the staff member in charge of everything inside the manor from directing the daily chore list for the students to being the liaison between the students and professors.

The professors are rarely, if ever, seen outside of class and usually spend their time in their offices on the 5th floor (allowed to students by invitation only).

Most of the art and iconography found in the school has deep connections to the fox hunt, the mystic past of the UK (see Tuatha De Danann), and the Sierra Squad comics; which will play a major part in Silas' quest for answers in the show.

The main areas of focus inside the manor are the following:
  • Gender-Divided Dormitories
  • Communal Wi-Fi Room
  • Dining Hall
  • Study Rooms
  • Classroom Wing (reserved rooms for all eleven professors, plus an empty twelfth classroom)
  • "The Warrior's Gauntlet" obstacle course
  • The Trades/Metallurgy Heavy Machine Shop
  • Professor Francesca's Ancient Curio Wing
  • The Professors' Office Wing
  • Mr. Houndsmoth's Wing (RESTRICTED TO EVERYONE)

Outside the walls:

Adorning the Houndsmoth property are all kinds of gardens, greenery, ancient stone structures, and rusty pipes maintained by Johnston: the manor's groundskeeper.

In exploring the grounds around the manor, Silas and the students would experience the ancient past of the land and how Mr. Houndsmoth's actions altered the landscape and the people who once lived here.

Most importantly, the entrance to The Abyss.

Professors Serena & Layla would spend a large majority of time outside the manor: picking herbs, studying plants and even maintaining their private groves. Professor Irwin lives and teaches his Outdoor Studies class in the safe portions of Myyradin Forest. While Professor Alastair would teaches his exclusively-selected students to live and attend his lectures in this independent, state-of-the-art observatory fitted with their own living quarters with artificial anti-gravity systems to simulate being an astronaut.

In season 1, Myyradin Forest and other outdoor activities were encouraged. Exploration to the Casket Craigs below the manor, even trips to Loch Gaisgeil and the unusual Pagoda on its shores were allowed.

However, in season 2, travel outdoors would be heavily restricted.

The main areas of focus on the grounds are the following:
  • Myrradin (or Madman) Forest
  • The Lost Hunter’s Lodge
  • Dark Donn's Rock
  • Loch Gaisgeil Pagoda
  • Professor Alastair's Self-Contained Observatory
  • The Casket Craigs
  • Tod's Ferry Necropolis
  • Virtue Gardens
