Shuttle

The Stenza stick shuttle is a bone tool some sixteen centimeters long, with two notches, one at each end. Thread is wound around it from the bobbin set into the loom, and then woven through warp threads in accordance with a weaver's goals or culture. The shuttle can be worked through warp either one- or two-handed, in a manner that effectively allows the weaver to pace.

Manufacturing process

Once an appropriate length of bone or wood has been selected, it is smoothed into a flat shape with a pronounced ovoid cross section, and a broad notch is carved into either end.
