Forest of the Ancients
The Forest of the Ancients is a massive primeval forest which covers most of the highlands of south-western Mundus Major. Parts of it are inhabited by the bothota and kindushel gruakhai, but much of it is entirely uninhabited due to the presence of the Ancients in the heart of the forest.
There is little infrastructure in the region. Most travel and shipping is conducted through River Bararam, and most of its settlements are found on its banks or the edges of the forest itself. Smaller, more reclusive communities of gruakhai make their homes in the deep forests, as do the faithful of Bruada.
The forests are also a haven to various groups of bandits, smugglers and other dregs of lawful society. The craggy hills and dark woods of this place make good hiding places for those looking to avoid the law. They stalk the riverbanks and raid or extort the nearby settlements, but are able to hide for months at a time thanks to the bountiful prey that can be found in the Forest of the Ancients.
The highest peaks of these woody highlands contain pockets of treeless tundra, where the Ancients roam. These mysterious giants sometimes venture down into the forests to hunt or to raid settlements which are built too close to their home grounds, but otherwise tend to keep to themselves, like many of those called Others.
