Ystor

Structure

Ystor is famously a very rare example of a diarchy. According to myth, Loqa (a legendary hero) invaded ancient Imperial Engoran's city of Ystor with only a group of one-hundred warriors and their wives. The local peoples were successfully enslaved. Loqa founded his own state, appointing both his son and daughter as heirs. His son and his oldest male heir after him would run military matters, whilst his daughter would run religious ones. To run the state itself he designed a whole other system, mostly based around randomised selection of what he called "Overseers".

Assets

  • Extremely fearsome, disciplined and trained warriors
  • An enormous amount of slaves

Territories

The whole region from the coast south of Ystor to the Westenis River is occupied by Ystor.

Military

Ystor's armies are famous and feared. The male inhabitants of Ystor always stands ready to mobilise on a whim. All their lives they are trained in the most unforgiving meaning of the word, which shows on the field.   Its armies are mostly infantry and phalanx based, but they are not weak on the sea or on other fronts. Tactics are also not lost on the Ystorans.   Ystor is without a doubt one of the greatest military power houses in the whole of Myr, which is commendable even more when looking at its size.   At the moment, the military forces of Ystor are lead by King Tatyr. He is young and has few victories under his belt in this time of relative Fereloqan peace, but this may well change in future. Fereloqa shows signs of an incoming war in all the wrong places.

Religion

Queen Rostar leads the Ystoran temples. The Temples of Thame and Strike are considered the most important in Ystor, but there is also an oracle not too far from the city. In Ystor, the belief in oracles runs very strong.   Faith is still very important in Ystor, even when the other states tend to waver.

Foreign Relations

Ystor aims towards independence. Because of this, they have historically been an uneasy but greatly valued part of the Southern Realms rather than the tax-based Eastguard. Still to this day they are technically part of the Southern Realms in trade, but are noticeably less involved than the other states.   Also, there is the matter of slavery, against which practically all of Fereloqa has clear views. This also creates some barriers between Ystor and the rest of Fereloqa, though no one seems to mind when they have need for strong warriors.

Agriculture & Industry

The hard work is mostly performed by slaves in Ystor. These slaves give the Ystorans enough resources to focus on training and other more important matters.

Trade & Transport

Trade is not considered as very important in Ystor.

The Sons of Loqa stand ready, always.
