Sanctuary of Asklepios
In the mountains not far from Sparta lies a sanctuary dedicated to Asklepios. Here people who have been befallen by illness can pilger here to seek healing, either by the hands of a priests or in prayer in the healing springs, that form the center of the construct. Those who visit here are alle the same in front of the priests, you cannot buy healing with your wealth, not threaten your way to it with a sword. The healing magic only works on the faithful and must be given freely.
First time visitors are often scared by the snakes that roam the temple without restriction. Though snakes are the animals of Asklepios and their venom, used correctly can be a powerful medicine.
Purpose / Function
This sanctuary is both a place of worship and a place of healing. The priests and priestesses of Asklepios know both healing magic and herbalism. Adventurers know to come here after battle to receive healing or try their luck and get one of the healing potions brewed by the priests and druids of the sanctuary.
Architecture
The sanctuary is completely integrated into its surroundings - the plants are not restricted in growth and two huge trees - one alive and one dead - grow inside it. Pillars hold the roof up, that runs along the sides of the long walls. Underneath these roofs you can find rest places for the sick. The priests, priestesses and druids live in small huts scattered in the surrounding forests on the side of the mountain.
Tourism
Mostly sick and wounded travel here in hopes of being worthy of healing. The servants of Asklepios are known to cure any ailment - from the smallest scratches to an blinded eye.
