"Rare as they are, I had no trouble finding an Aasimar once I put out word of my search. The man I met was boastful and proud of his divine heritage, and was followed by a flock of admirers that certainly did nothing to temper his ego. He spared no detail as he regaled me with grand tales of adventure and romance, much to the delight of his entourage. I took the time to observe his mannerisms, but there was not much to see behind those golden, glowing eyes. I often wonder how much of it was real." - An excerpt from "The Travels of Hafrick Moriarty"
Aasimar were created by
Mestonia and infused with her divine powers about 200 years after the creation of
Elves. They are rare but are a proud and haughty race, believing themselves superior because of the radiant power that flows in their veins. They make for natural leaders and valiant warriors, but their numbers have begun to thin as they were weakened by The Silence and Mestonia's disappearance.
Celestial Blood
Aasimar are nearly identical to
Humans in appearance. They have similar heights and builds, as well as skin tones and hair colors. The key difference that makes an Aasimar stand out is their eyes. Most glow golden with Mestonia's light, while others can vary between silver and white. An Aasimar can be born to any Human mother, having been chosen by Mestonia in the womb. They are typically beautiful and age well compared to Humans, staying young in appearance before rapidly deteriorating and dying around the beginning of their third century. Since the Silence, no new Aasimar have been born.
Divine Right
Most Aasimar believe they were placed on the planet by Mestonia to lead and to rule over the other mortals in Mytkora. This causes them to be arrogant and haughty, which draws the ire of many others they interact with. On the other hand, however, they
do have a natural charisma and leadership capability that suggests they are correct in some sense. Natalia, Queen of
The Athelesian Empire, recognizes this leadership ability and has appointed several Aasimar as Generals within her armies.
Searching For A Spark
When Mestonia disappeared, many Aasimar lost some of their innate power. Where some could bathe the world in sunlight for a mile around them, now they can only create the equivalent of a torch. Where some could bring allies back from the brink of death, now can only heal basic wounds and injuries. There is great despair among Aasimar because of this, and most feel betrayed or abandoned by Mestonia's absence. Many still pray to the heavens though, asking for their mother's return.
