"We traveled by boat from Tanale to the rocky archipelago known as the Elsian Islands. The islands were beautiful, with high, white cliffs and lush forests of massive trees. We docked at a clean harbor, and I met my very first Dragonborn. He was much taller than I; I would estimate he stood over six and a half feet tall. He had beautiful, silver scales that shone in the evening sun and long, horn-like appendages that hung from the back of his head like hair. I met many more like him, all of them friendly. They treated each other like family, referring to their peers as 'Cousin.' Most surprising, however, they did not seem to acknowledge the fact of The Silence. Despite it being twenty years past at that point, a majority of these folk had never seemed to have heard of such a thing." - An excerpt from "The Travels of Hafrick Moriarty"
Dragonborn were created by
Elsios around a century after the creation of
Elves. He instilled in each of them a fragment of the power he had placed in some of his favorite constellations, granting them unique abilities and skills. They followed Elsios' commands and built a functioning society for themselves, and they have not heard from him since. When The Silence came, it was decades before any Dragonborn knew.
An Example of Power
Dragonborn are a massive race, standing several inches over 6 feet tall on average and weighing around 280 pounds. Their feet end in three large talons that allow them to dig into the ground as they walk. They have a blunt snout and narrow eyes. Most females have a reptilian frill around the sides of the neck, and most males have a batch of scaled, soft horns that grow from the back of their heads like hair. They can have scales of all different colors and patterns. All Dragonborn fit into one of five subraces based on the constellation Elsios bound to them upon their creation: Kynigo, Polestis, Magos, Vasili, or Domos. These cosmic bonds grant them specific skills. Without all five together as one, Dragonborn society would not function.
Isolated but Amiable
Dragonborn settlements are predominantly found in the Elsian Islands, an archipelago northeast of Tekoril. There are some who have settled in the hills and mountains in the northern part of the continent, and there have been several over the years that have left the settlements to go experience foreign civilization. They are friendly and generous with their neighboring settlements and are usually looked upon favorably by the other races. When an outlander visits the Elsian islands, they are welcomed with the Greeting Ceremony, where a representative from each of the five cosmic bonded Dragonborn subraces offers the newcomer a gift.
Everyone Has Their Place
Most Dragonborn believe strongly in destiny and fate. To them, Elsios has arranged a life for each of them, and they each have their role to fulfill in the world during their lifespans. Many Dragonborn also believe in reincarnation for Draconic souls of all kinds, and that they might be reborn as a powerful Dragon should they live a good life. As such, Dragonborn follow their gut feelings religiously and will go where they feel most at home. Some have traveled across Mytkora, and although they are uncommon, one can usually find a Dragonborn in most major cities.
