Gnome Traits

Ability Score Increase

You may increase any ability scores of your choosing up to three times, however you may not increase any one ability score more than twice.

Age

Gnomes mature at the same rate humans do, and most are expected to settle down into an adult life by around age 40. They can live 350 to almost 500 years.

Size

Gnomes are between 3 and 4 feet tall and average about 40 pounds. Your size is Small.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 25 feet.

Gnomish Ingenuity

You gain proficiency in Tinker's tools and advantage on checks made to discern how a mechanism works, or how to fix it if it doesn't.

Clockwork Devices

Using your Tinkerer’s tools, you can spend 1 hour and 10 gp worth of materials to fashion a Tiny clockwork device (AC 5, 1 hp). The device can be a variety of things, from a lighter to a music box. Your DM has the final say on what is allowed and what is not, but be encouraged to think of new inventions. The device ceases to function after 24 hours or until you use an action to disassemble it unless you spend an hour repairing it. Disassembling the device allows you to recover all expended materials.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Stonespeak.

Subraces

Choose one of the subraces below.

Rock Gnome

Rock gnomes are a hardy and resourceful bunch used to living underground. They function well with what they have and don’t tolerate laziness. They have pale skin and strong noses, with dark brown or black hair.

Darkvision

Accustomed to living underground, your eyes have adjusted to life without sunlight. You can see in dim light up to 60 feet away as if it were bright light, and darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Making Do With What We’ve Got

If you spend at least an hour foraging, you are able to procure enough food to feed up to 8 creatures for a day, as long as there is food to be found.

Grass Gnome

Jolly and hardworking, the Grass gnomes of the prairies and hills find happiness in small villages that dot the landscape. They are welcoming of strangers and often travel to peddle their trinkets to the big towns and cities. They have fair skin with rosy cheeks and generally have light brown, red, or blond hair.

Plow the Fields, Drive the Wagons

You gain proficiency in the Nature skill and in Land Vehicles. Any check made to interact with domesticated animals is done at advantage.

Friendly Face

You may add your Wisdom modifier to Persuasion and Trade checks.

Steam Gnome

Steam gnomes are those that have abandoned the isolated life in nature and embraced the industrial life of the cities. They often work in workshops or refineries… or turn to a less than honorable trade. They have olive skin with curly hair of black or dark brown.

Like the Back of My Hand

You gain proficiency in the Investigation skill. Additionally, you have advantage on any check made to navigate within a city or town or to find a specific location within.

Tools of the Trade

You gain proficiency in one of the following tools: Thieves’ Tools, Smithing Tools, Glassblower’s Tools, or Jeweler’s Tools.
Lore: Gnomes
