Dwarf, Mountain

Bold and hardy, dwarves are known as skilled warriors, miners, and workers of stone and metal. Though they stand well under 5 feet tall, dwarves are so broad and compact that they can weigh as much as a human standing nearly two feet taller. Their courage and endurance are also easily a match for any of the larger folk.   Dwarven skin ranges from deep brown to a paler hue tinged with red, but the most common shades are light brown or deep tan, like certain tones of earth. Their hair, worn long but in simple styles, is usually black, gray, or brown, though paler dwarves often have red hair. Dwarves value their beards highly and groom them carefully.   Mountain dwarves are strong and hardy, accustomed to a difficult life in rugged terrain. They are on the tall side (for a dwarf), and tend toward lighter coloration.

Eslaiqi Mountain Dwarves

The Uneaten: Not too long ago before the Age of Emergence there lived a civilization of mountain dwarves living within the Northern Iddrich Mountains. They lived close with the city of Hyalma, working in concert with the sea faring people there to sell their crafted goods and the raw ores from their mines. In recent times however a tragedy befell their people, involving the encroaching Brume, descents into madness, and a number of inconsistent tales of what exactly happened within their mountain homes. However what is known is the people are now displaced to the world, with many living either in the neighboring city of Hyalma or having moved further inland toward the capital of Illhum to apply their crafts in a new location. They are a lonely and tragic group, with many not having much of anything to show of their homeland other than the crafts and makes they continue to this day.

Gylidder Mountain Dwarves

Dobkwar's Finest: The fading peaks of western Gylidd are a mist-cloaked dagger directly into the heart of the island, and the mountain dwarves of the fortress city Dobkwar are the first line of defense between Gylidd and the horrors of the Brume. Highly populated and just as expansive above the surface of the world as below, all manner of dwarves call this community home but none moreso than the folk of the mountain Kwr H’lasu. Dobkwar has many districts split between the caverns of the lightdark, the fortresses of the eastern slope, and the tiered farmlands that stretch out into the western plains of Orlewynd. Each of these districts has a representative, and the most respected mountain dwarf among them is Yumchakob Votan, minister of the High Fortress of Freksaboth ("the hundred untouched steps") a landmark of peerless defenses that has never been conquered by any invader.
