The Dungeon Of Graves: Session 3

General Summary

Wasps and Ghosts

Over the night's rest, the adventurers let their experience percolate and awoke the next morning rested, a bit more confident, and stronger in their skills with some more eager than others to put those new skills to the test. The morning of the fourth of Zhira brought the end of the rain that soaked them the last few days of travel. As they started to get ready for the day's travel, they all noticed the large puddles of water around the fallen tree they had taken shelter in the night before. It seemed that the party had chosen wisely, the thick roots of the tree had proved them a restful and rain free night.   Heading back to the Droellog River, the adventurers were finally able to see the beauty of the Forest of Hope. With the rain and the general ominous feeling lifted, they could see the rich colors of the trees, the soft shades of brown as they walked the path that led them back to the bridge. The path they trekked seemed more like the forest had adapted to the idea of having the grass not grow along this area instead of being a road that had been created. The bridge spanned the river roughly 50 ft across with the Droellog flowing 40 ft under the mainly rope and wooden bridge. After a little discussion, they decided that the support stakes on either side and the general condition of the ropes seemed adequate for one person to travel over it at a time.   Namul, a goliath cleric and one of the heaviest of the party members, had volunteered to make the journey across the precarious looking bridge first. However, Sarazaal pointed out that if he crossed first he could wait across the river and try to catch the large cleric if anything terrible happened. As the Lizardfolk crossed the bridge, the only thing to happen was that the bridge shook off its morning dew blanket. The others followed one at a time. The newest member of the group, Sinestra, seemed determined to arrive at their location and kept the group focused on travel. As they continued on they could see that the thick and lush Forest of Hope stretched out to the west and continued up the Rachis mountains, to the east they could see another forest and the area they traveled seemed to be a dense grassland that, in various locations, obstructed the path they traveled.   Around midday they started to notice some winged movement in the trees far to the east. Some very large insects seemed to be darting across the treetops. They were unable to tell if the creatures were large bees or wasps, either way they could use or sell some of the resources. Some of the adventurers wanted to hunt the large insects while others wanted to stay their course. Much discussion happened with a vote being called. Once again, Keartas abstained from casting a vote either way. For someone who deliberately and decidedly gave Inako the location of the fallen Sir Conneghal’s grave they seemed to have trouble making decisions that affect the group. It seemed that the party was going to continue on their path with a hope of returning to the location if time allowed them until Lothar spoke up. Lothar wanted to hunt the insects and that swayed Namul. Over the last few days, through battle, actions, and conversations it seems that the party’s clerics have built some trust between them.   They all decided that they would use the treeline to help camouflage their approach. As they made the slow and stealthy journey, Fox Tail reminded them that this hunt would add another day to their travel. By the evening they had, with the expert survival skills of Sinestra, made it right outside one of the nests. The insects turned out to be large wasps and the battle that resulted tested the group once again. Namul had suggested that they wait until the morning to strike but the group pushed forward following Sinestra’s suggestion of not doing anything rash. The wasps’ stingers were roughly hand size and seemed to leave a scent to the wounds they produced. Overall, the wasps hit hard but were quite delicate themselves.   Xantrix, an artificer, offered to hold as many wasp bodies as their newly constructed Bag of Holding could hold. Sarazaal pointed out that his wounds could attract more wasps while they rest if the scent wasn’t burned out. Keartas volunteered, rather quickly, to Firebolt the wounds while Xantrix offered their torches. The barbarian did not back down from the possible pain, taking the cauterization while chanting “there is no pain..” As they tended their wounds, the group decided to make camp for the night as the forest seemed to press in upon them.   As they started to make camp, off to the east a thick fog materizalied. The Brume had found them and instead of rushing through them it sat there. They could hear the sounds of battle coming closer to them from within the Brume. Lothar, being curious--heroic, decided to go for a closer look. Out of the mist, wolves that leaked Brume from every orifice and the sound of battle from their mouths, stalked out.   The group had just started to settle down after the fight with the wasps and now was in another battle with Brume ghosts. Over the day’s travel, Beatrice had been missing. The group had thought the dwarf was just covering the rear but as another battle started they were still missing their rogue. It wasn’t until after the battle they found out that Inako had called her back for a different mission that required her skills. Tumeti, a goliath druid, had given the rogue her new assignment and just caught up with the group as the wolves attacked. She quickly joined the fray taking up a spot near Lothar. “Hello, my God is trying to kill me” the cleric greeted her. The battle was fierce with many of the adventures taking terrible hits but none had fallen. Near the end, the Brume wolves had started to show retreat. Some of the party wanted to let them retreat to the Brume while the others fought until every last one had perished. Lothar skinned one of the wolves after praying before Vrokíva’s Brume. Tumeti, with help, was able to pile the fallen wolves near the Brume for Vrokíva to claim if she wished too. The druid was welcomed into the group that had started to finally show teamwork even if some of them still distrusted their companions.
