The Keepers of Atnavinen
This is a religious order dedicated to the preservation and upkeep of Atnavinen Valley. The people who join the order take care of the plants, animals, and holy sites throughout the valley. They live in one of four buildings just outside the valley, depending on which part of the valley they are caring for. They keep meticulous records of their own experiences and the reported experiences of pilgrims with the gods while in the valley.
Structure
The Keepers have 3 leaders: the High Priest, the High Priestess, and the Prophet.
Below them are the 4 House Clerics who are in charge of the people living in their respective house.
Beyond that, there is a loose organization according to seniority.
Culture
Very organized and ritualistic in their day-to-day. They have a set schedule which they observe every day.
Public Agenda
To maintain and preserve the holy sites and beauty of the valley. They also aim to preserve the history and religious experiences tied to the valley.
Assets
The Atnavinen Valley is considered their property. They have a large collection of valuable religious books and art.
Demography and Population
People are prohibited from living in the valley itself. Pilgrims are welcomed into the same buildings that the monks live in just outside the valley.
The population is pretty evenly divided between the four houses.
Infrastructure
There are four large stone buildings which are somewhat castle or tower-like. They are the communal homes used by the monks. Each is situated in one of the cardinal directions around the valley, so they have the North House, South House, East House, and West House.
Inside the valley, there are only footpaths and various alters and other holy sites.
Divine Origins
Shortly after the gods taught the people of Arshilkrin language, people began living around Atnavinen Valley and tending to it. Over time, this became the organized structure that is now the Keepers of Atnavinen.
Priesthood
To join the Keepers of Atnavinen, a person must request a meeting with the council in writing. They must express their desire to become a monk and devote their life to caring for the valley. If the council deems their intentions to be pure and virtuous, they are given a set of green robes, assigned to a house, and made to take an oath of dedication. The next day, at morning prayer they burn their personal belongings and don the robes. They are then considered a member of the Keepers of Atnavinen.
