Nordmark

Borders Weswyn and Norhorn Dale to the south, the Maelstrom Sea to the west, and the North Sea to the east.

Geography

Central Nordmark is defined by the Ivory Spires in the west, a sprawling mountain range that dominates most of the western half of the country, and the Hemfard Taiga, a wide stretching plain broken up by dense forests and snaking fjords, which dominates the eastern half of the country. Outer Nordmark is a frozen archipelago of thousands of islands that rings the entire west, north, and east coasts of the country.

Political climate

For most of its history - which, as the oldest human nation on Mesothalassos, is an extremely long history - Nordmark has been somewhere between a loose confederation of tribes and a disparate, constantly-infighting divided nation. Each Nordmarker tribe has generally considered themselves sovereign and independent, and the moniker "Nordmarker" only applied when referring to the region of the world and the loose culture they all share.
However, 22 years ago, the warchief of the Trostani tribe, Hemming Hjalmarssen, embarked upon a war of unification with the singular goal of transforming Nordmark from a divided people into a single nation under a single ruler.
17 years ago, after 5 long years of war, he succeeded. Newly-crowned High King Hemming established the nation of Nordmark.
2 years ago, High King Hemming was assassinated by a party of sellswords, including one Liviana Helkasdottir, the current High Queen of the Tver Trostani.

Social strata

Up until recently, Nordmark's social strata has been split between nobles and peasants, the haves and the have-nots of Nordmarker society.
However, upon King Hemming's assassination and Queen Liviana's ascension to the throne, this dynamic began to change. Over the next two years, the Queen abolished the nobility and erased all social strata, once again making all Nordmarkers equal under the law.

Technological Level

Comparatively primitive. Nordmark's small population and relative isolation from the remainder of Mesothalassos, along with its fragmentation into numerous tribes and raiding culture, mean that while some technology has made its way to Nordmark, much that was not immediately useful was abandoned.

Religion

The official religion of Nordmark is the worship of the New Gods.
The patron deity of the Trostani is Hrimvos.
Worship of gods other than the New Gods, up until recently, was strictly forbidden. However, after the death of King Hemming and the ascension of Queen Liviana, this restriction was lifted.

Foreign Relations

Nordmark is a trade partner of Weswyn, Antivassos, Verretos, and Isambard. High King Hemming's ascension to the throne heralded a new era of cultural exchange, trade, and peace for Nordmark.
Nordmark is currently still technically at war with Antivassos, despite being their trade partner, as a formal peace agreement was never signed.
The guarded and somewhat unwelcoming dwarves of Imzalis sometimes trade with Nordmark, though they have no formal trade agreement.
The xenophobic dwarves of Haldor do not deal with Nordmark.
Several other human nations, including Selsaym, Halzek, Karalev, and Tzud, all of whom have been at the mercy of Nordmarker raids, are currently wary of Nordmark, but some diplomatic relations have been established.
