Centaur

Centaurs are large sentient creatures that resemble a hybrid between horse and human. Their upper body largely resembles other humanoids, but ends at the waist. Below, they have the body of a horse.   According to centaur legend, the species was created by a drunken god who transformed a whole town sometime around 400 BEC. The god, Admien, is viewed with a unique mixture of reverence and disdain by centaurs.   The centaur's birthplace was the ancient nation of Saktola, located in what is now Zabria and Calashi'din Vorpakk.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Centaurs stand at roughly 7' tall and weigh approximately 1500 pounds. Like mundane horses, there are a variety of subspecies of centaur, which affects their size and fur patterning. Centaurs have a variety of skin tones as well, similar to human skin tones.   Centaurs are known to have duplicated organs, including two hearts. The organs located in the human portion are generally said to be the secondary organs. Though centaurs can sometimes survive with damaged secondary organs, such a life is generally quite difficult.

Genetics and Reproduction

Without the aid of magic, centaurs are only capable of producing children with other centaurs. As a result, they are an extreme rarity outside of Central Aisoa.   However, with the aid of some simple magic, centaurs seem to be able to produce centaur offspring bearing the traits of their partners. Half-elf centaurs have existed, for example. This has lead to more diversity in appearance among centaurs, but most still have strong resemblance to ancient Saktolans.

Growth Rate & Stages

Centaurs grow at almost the same rate as humans, hitting puberty in their early teenage years. Centaur foals learn to walk at a much earlier age than human children.
