Drider

Driders are the semi-humanoid spider creatures that reside in the Underdark. They have the torso of a purple skinned human, but the legs and body of a massive spider.   When the Stross dwarves were pushed from the underground, not all the other inhabitants of the underground followed them. The Dirid, purple skinned humanoids with pale white eyes, were too dependent on the darkness of the underground to thrive on the surface. They stayed behind to attempt to fight back the beasts that had been unleashed in their lands.   It is said that they prayed to an old god to help them in their war for survival, who transformed their species into what are now known as Driders.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Driders are large, often at a height of 7 to 8 feet, and weighing over 400 lbs. The nature of their spider half varies heavily between individuals, but universally they have eight legs, and a large thorax and abdomen. A driders human section has purple skin of various hues, and generally straight or wavy hair in shades of white, black, and blue.   Drider's eyes are generally stark white, without pupils.

Growth Rate & Stages

Driders go through stages of moulting like mundane spiders as their carapace grows. Most driders reach adulthood at 18, and growth and moulting slows, but never entirely stops. The oldest driders can become very large, with their spider halves dwarfing their humanoid halves which remain the same size after adulthood.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Driders can see incredibly well in the dark, but have difficulty with bright lights - especially on the surface under the sunlight.
