Ilvesha (Ill-vesh-ah)

Divine Domains

Ilvesha is associated with the sea, deep underwater trenches, and monsters of the Deep Dark .   It is frequently referenced by sailors and coastal towns, most often in a tone of fear - violently choppy seas are sometimes referred to as "Ilvesha's Fury". The phrase generally refers to the water itself rather than any storms that might cause it.   When people are lost at sea or ships are sunk they are sometimes said to be in the Deep Dark or in Ilvesha's clutches, meaning they are impossible to recover. The Deep Dark is a mythical place that is said to be where all the lost treasure of the sea is gathered, in the darkest trench of the deepest ocean. It is there where Ilvesha has been lurking for so many years.

Personal history

Ilvesha is an impossibly large deep sea monstrosity who has not been seen in the last 140 years, but sightings of the creature span back over six thousand years. Little is known about Ilvesha other than its extreme size and danger. Survivors of one sighting in 2104 EC claim their fleet was battling a kraken when the sea started to shake. Waves larger than any they had ever seen crashed against each other in unnatural ways, and a massive creature breached the surface of the sea to swallow the kraken whole, destroying nine ships in the process. As quickly as it had come, it returned to the dark of the ocean.   No one has ever communicated with Ilvesha, and it's unknown how intelligent it is. Some worship it and claim they draw power from the creatures at the bottom of the sea.
