Sauvian Brown Bat

The Sauvian Brown Bat is a small bat native to Ammalion, and is a key species in the region. It combats insect population and aids in pollination, leading to the easy growth of crops that the region is known for.   It is considered a semi-sacred animal among worshippers of the god of farming, Siher, and many people tend to them as pets or boons for their farming. As a result, bats in general are widely liked in the nation, and larger species are kept as pets.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Sauvian brown bat is a small bat, having a wingspan of 8 to 10 inches. They primarily feed on insects at nighttime, capable of catching hundreds of bugs in a night after awakening from wintertime hibernation. As its name suggests, it has poofy brown fur, and black skin. They are easily startled and shy away from other animals and humanoids, but tend to become used to batkeepers that they recognize.

Ecology and Habitats

Wild Sauvian brown bats tend to live in dense treetops, caves, and other safe areas away from predators that might disturb them. Closer to humanoid population, they can be found in attics, the eaves of churches, and other areas similar to caves.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Sauvian brown bats have excellent hearing, and use echolocation as an aid in hunting. Though they do not primarily subsist on fruit, they seem to have an affinity for it and sweet smells can sometimes attract them.
