Den Hrothi

One of the larger drow Dens, Den Hothi was established on ancient ruins of unidentified origins. It is made up of the ruling Hrothi family, and a number of others. Seeking any sort of guidance they could find in the ancient ruins, but unable to find anything, the Den slowed their efforts to uncover the lost secrets in the ruins. Some drow however still clung to the hope that they had not abandoned their place in the Citadel for nothing, and kept up efforts to dig into the ruins and uncover some artifact of their sought-after patron. The place of a deity leading the Den was taken by the then House Head, now Denmother, Alaquinala Hrothi. Missing their old gods to place their faith in, the Den started relying more and more on the Denmother, to the point where they raided villages with the aim of taking slaves to sacrifice to her in an ancient ritual that extends her lifespan.   As current focus of all the families in the den is capturing slaves and showing off their power, the most important decisions made by the Denmother and the council of Matrons is regulating when raids can happen, how big they should be, and where they will target. To achieve this, House Deval has trained a pair of Purple Worms to dig tunnels, followed by the warriors that were chosen to be in the expedition. The training process is a close kept secret that keeps the house in a powerful position within the Den. However, while the raids are a big part of drow culture, because of their long lives, there are years between the raids, and their goal is to capture as many people as quickly as possible. The long term goal of the raids is to maintain a steady stream of slaves, but not to upset the Hamonnet Duchy enough to launch major efforts into attacking them.

Creation

After the Calamity, the elven empire was destroyed and the Citadel of Selene was barely standing. With all this chaos and destruction some elven houses fled the island of Ulathian after feeling betrayed by their creators. One of those houses, which would become known as Dens, was House Hrothi.

Structure

The leader of the Den is Denmother Alaqiunala Hrothi. Below her are the Matrons of the other families that live in the Den. Of those Matrons, the 4 most powerful ones earn a place into the council of Matrons, that decide the policies and future of the Den. Each of the families is then split into its own female dominated hierarchy. Under the citizens are the slaves, which make up a sizable part of the population, and are made up of both convicted drow, and captured people of the Empire.

Culture

The culture of the Den is very much focused around the idea that might makes right, and most disputes are solved with threats or the stepping in of another, more powerful third party. Magical and physical skill and power are respected greatly, with dexterity and intelligence being the main attributes looked for in upcoming drow.
