Mind-Flayers

The mind flayers, known scientifically as Ilithids, are creatures that are believed to not be native to the Material Plane originating instead form another unknown place in the Astral Sea . They are known to be cruel and sadistic creatures, taking slaves to their underdark homes, to experiment and feast on their brains. They wield mighty psionic powers, and are believed to have more knowledge of the nature of magic than other creatures. This psionic power is what is then imparted into mortals that have escaped the experiments of the mind-flayers, and become Mystics. However, despite their fascinating biology and powers, they have not undergone significant research from the Arcanic Order, as acquiring one would be a large problem, and have only been studied post-mortem.

Basic Information

Genetics and Reproduction

The mind-flayers do not reproduce sexually, they instead produce small tadpole like creatures with a sharp mouth, which in turn burrow into a sentient creatures body and gain control of it by attaching to its brain and in a short period of time forming it into a mind-flayer. This is why the mind-flayers need to consume the nervous tissue of other creatures, as they cannot recreate it in their own body.

Dietary Needs and Habits

The mind flayers survive on a diet of excursively the brain and nervous systems or sentient creatures.
