The Mists of Valbrunei

The whole of the County of Valbrunei is covered with a supernatural mist. Many people get lost in it, and it can even prove deadly to those of weak constitution, or those that spend too much time in its thickest parts. Legends tell that it was brought to the land by the Vampire Counts who did not want all their citizens to be free to leave, and to keep dangerous people out. Rumors say that the mists are the collection of tortured souls that have died in these lands, or even the remnants of a single horrifying creature that was slain long ago. Whatever the case, it is of little importance to the townsfolk how the mists came, it only matters that they did, and what they brought with them. Less sunlight, means dying crops, and a massive famine, at least until hardier crops finally came. The mists also mean that those who wonder too far, especially alone, are very seldom found, in one piece that is. The mists are a mysterious part of Valbrunei, that very few understand, and even fewer can claim to have any influence over them.
