Chapter 2, Session 6: A brief boat journey
General Summary
You believe yourself to be the hero or main character of this story? You are incorrect. You are a servant. A servant to the lyars...The Kaechaek Party took a long rest and Mallus kept watch, hearing Peregrine begin to dream. In her dream, the flames cackled, seemingly happy about something. When asked, they claimed to be happy for nothing to have happened, they didn’t see a change, which made them happy. The flames called Peregrine a servant but when she claimed to be a cog in a wheel, they said she didn’t understand her place. The voices reassured her she wouldn’t die, avoiding answering her question on what would happen if she did. Peregrine tried to cast Spiritual Weapon (a sorcerer spell) and Ray of Frost (a tiefling spell) in the dream but felt nothing/felt completely powerless with no connection in the space. The next morning, Hermione of Vallea went to the Fungi Sellers to offer free services to fix the damage Sigholdt had done the previous night. In return, not realising Hermione's role in the damage to their shop, they gifted her a free healing mushroom. Peregrine went to see Emerald Quick-Wick, overhearing him arguing about the mansion explosion with Kindness. After a moment, Peregrine went in as Kindness left, and proceeded to tell him everything (whilst avoiding the party’s direct involvement). In return, Emerald gave Peregrine the name and location of someone who could cast Dispel Magic - Sabria Lilk, Hermione’s mentor. Peregrine headed to The Smiling Rock to meet the mage. After a short conversation, Sabria agreed to use Dispel Magic on Peregrine’s handprint after an Identify spell yielded no more information on it. This seemed to be a success! In return, she took some blood from Peregrine (before Peregrine could protest or stop her), and sent her on her way. Meanwhile, Esmerae chilled at the boat as Sigholdt and Malus painted the sandspeeder with the red paint Fionn had procured before his death - specifically to hide any official insignia - before driving it to the boat. Peregrine and Hermione reached the boat and reunited with the group and they were now ready to set set sail. Sarai, the captain/owner of the boat, became concerned about the level of danger the party posed upon overhearing them talk of nightmare's they had and the fact they were enemies of The Unwaking Coven, as Hermione berated Peregrine and Mallus for their lack of tact - though Esmerae was able to calm things down and reassure Sarai. The party learned that Sarai was originally from Thornden, though when asked, she didn’t know about the mists. When she asked why Malus was interested, Peregrine covered for him, even as he went on to ask about a woman made of silver moonlight - something else Sarrai didn’t know about. When Sarrai asked again if she was in danger, Sigholdt reassured her no. During the journey, Sigholdt used insight to spot people dreaming, using his ability to instantly wake them to help prevent manifestations while the party was in open water. He noticed that Investigator Sellix had good dreams, Sarrai had a nightmare of spilling something and a headmistress being involved, and Peregrine had no dreams. Peregrine later used performance to help with the group morale, before secretly confiding in Malus that she had realised she’d lost her magic. Esmerae attempted to use persuasion to convince Sarrai that everything was ok, while Hermione used arcana to make useful constructs to help the boat. Malus used athletics to power the oars to make the boat go faster - while Sigholdt and Esmerae overall failed their skills, the others in the party succeeded. During the travels, Esmerae learned about the Teneted vampires, discovering their origins in Vallea, led by a woman known as The First who snuck into Caer Dathyl to study the Wall of The Reader. She believed the vampires could bring on The Twin Peak Dawn to lead to a new age of vampire leadership by following the tenants. This belief led to a civil war - while not many survived, the ones that were left were very powerful. Esmerae also learned the exact Tenants from the book. Meanwhile, Sigholdt offered to teach Malus to become a proper Kae, and the pair of them bonded over the journey. Also, through some attempts to cast spells and use other abilities, Peregrine confirmed she was somehow, no longer a sorcerer. Finally, as the party approached land, a fog rolled in across the water, before lighting up as dreams of the ocean began to form - gold and nice to look at. A massive, powerful shape formed beneath the water and spoke in the language of the quori, mentioning that they would grow and infest the land with dreams and power. The party were able to pass peacefully by, finally docking. They agreed to follow Blair Bloomson as their guide (via the sandspeeder). Whilst Peregrine appeared very upset over her loss of magic, Sigholdt attempted - and failed - to cheer her up. As they drove, the party saw pits beginning to line the road - semi-hidden, 6ft by 6ft, with platinum bars across the top. They recognised them to be similar to the pit Grand-Daughter Tiana was trapped in. Eventually, they reached the edge of a crater with a small village inside - the village of The Spooks : Evecrest! Sigholdt told Hero and Crumble to hide/go away, to not get caught by the Spooks. Slowly, the party descended into the centre of the crater/town, past new recruits training. They saw an older man in a window watching as they passed. As they arrived in the centre of town, children were sent indoors, as a man approached the party purposefully. Welcome to Evecrest?
