Alchemist Fire

"Perhaps not one of Veth Monra's more impressive inventions, yet there's no doubt it's been the deadliest." - Baron Thyme, Ironwood War Historian, Astoran Archives   Alchemist Fire, also known as "Bottled Flame", is a sticky substance that ignites into a blaze when in contact with air. It is often carried in glass or clay housings to protect from accidental discharge. Often used in combat, Alchemist Fire is typically thrown by the user towards the target, whereupon contact, the housing will smash and thereby cover the victim in a sticky substance which instantly ignites into flame. Though Alchemist Fire is by no means common, its creation is not difficult for any alchemist of decent skill.   The creation and use of Alchemist Fire is a famous revelation from The Ironwood War. The Astoran Military would use this chemical as its main weapon during Operation Torchwood, using it to put an end to the conflict.

History

Creation in Veth Monra
Alchemist Fire was created in AoR 447 by the Headmaster of Veth Monra at the time, Monobraz Cindance. With Operation Torchwood planning in motion by AoR 438, the Astoran Military requested extra aid from the Mages of the Academy. Veth Monra, still troubled from the attack on The Spell Forge years earlier, accepted the task. By AoR 448, Alchemist Fire was ready for use in Operation Torchwood, becoming an essential aspect of the maneuver.
Operation Torchwood
Operation Torchwood would prove to be an overwhelming success for Astora and essentially ended The Ironwood War. Using its new tool, the military was able to burn large swatches of lush forest, driving the Ironwood Kingdom's forces back to Arnad-Ang. Soon after, Arnad-Ang itself would burn, ignited by the undying flames of Monobraz's creation.   In its short period of use, Alchemist Fire would see to the destruction of thousands of acres of woodland and many elven lives. This revelation would later lead to Monobraz Cindance's resignation as Headmaster of Veth Monra, the Wizard unable to manage the guilt of creating such a weapon.
Outlawed
By AoR 515, an attempt to appeal to the elven population was made in the form of a new law. This law would see the selling and buying of Alchemist Fire become illegal in Vinheim. This law would extend to the rest of Astora several years later.
