Westereach

The northwest corner of Sevaria is encompassed by the region of Westereach. Within Sevaria itself, Westereach borders the Silver Vale on its southwest border, The Crownlands along its southeast border, and Duruslund on its eastern border. To the north lays the western stretch of the Teileberge and part of Sevaria's border with neighbouring Reisenhoff; the majority of access between the two nations occurs through mountain passes which originate in Westereach on their southern ends.   Since the founding of Sevaria, tensions have been high between the Sevarians and the government of Reisenhoff who still have some claim on the territory. While it has yet to erupt into a full war, those towns closest to the border on Sevaria's side occasionally find themselves plagued by attempts by Reisenhoff's more ambitious administrators to enforce their nation's historical claim.

History

Prior to its annexation by Sevaria during the Sevarian War of Unification, Westereach existed as the nation of Beschut. Early on in its history, the lord of Beschut, fearing the growing powers bordering him on this side of the Teileberge, allied his nation with the growing empire of Reisenhoff on the far side of his northern border. Thus the nation became a vassal state of the empire, providing a buffer between Reisenhoff and the threat across the mountains.   Prior to Sevarian unification, the people of Beschut came to resent the shadows of the empire over it and declared a war of independence against their overlords. As the war waged on, it became clear to the leaders of Beschut they could not stand alone in their struggle, they turned to their former enemies that were now being united under the banner of Sevaria. In the end, Beschut traded one master for another and became the region of Westereach after unification was completed.
